Honorary Oscars 2019 - Red Carpet!
by Nathaniel R
Once you start seeing who shows up at ceremonies that they don't even technically have to be at, you know who is serious about their own awards prospects. Or maybe who just wants to be there to support their film in the event that constant reminders help a film get nominated (that's a yes, they do). At the Honorary Oscar ceremony last night in Los Angeles the stars were out in force and it's easy to see the films that are already serious about pushing their awards prospects hard: the cast and/or directors of Booksmart, Hustlers, Little Women, Waves, Atlantics, Pain and Glory, Us, Bombshell, Marriage Story, 1917, Harriet were out in force.
Let's look at the lovely gowns and tuxes shall we?
Who are you rooting for and who was best dressed? Do tell in the comments.
And the honored quartet of the night... but more on those four later once we have the videos!

Say what you want about Judy or Renee Zellweger, she has always dressed impeccably. Remember that black number she wore to the Vanity Fair party this year? I live. Better than anything we saw on the red carpet.
Lots of great dresses here, but my eye just kept going back to Regina King.
The dress.. the hair... the jewels... just, pure gorgeous glam. Absolutely stunning.
I love Renee Elise Goldsberry. Very different and stunning on her.
She isn't pictured here, but Lupita looked great as always. I hope Lupita and Jordan Peele's presence means that they are serious about campaigning her.
I like Wes Studi's look, especially the bowtie, and I second the love for Goldsberry's unique look.
The shades of purple that Palmer and Pugh chose are great, but the shapes and styles aren't so much.
A handful of these bring back memories of "The Leg." Is that the most memorable thing Angelina's done this decade?
JF -- it's true. it's great to have her back on the red carpet where she usually slays.
Troy -- what a career she's having... and dressing the part too!
Suzanne -- i'm so happy she's getting movie roles. Renee Elise Goldsberry i mean. I was absolutely in love with her in Hamilton and though she has the smallest role in WAVES (of the six main characters) she's wonderful in it.
how did i miss Lupita... most search again.
I told my girlfriend I would cheat on her with Scarlett Johansson... She said she was OKAY just because she's Scarlett Johansson lol
Awkwafina, Saiorse, Florence, Renee and Adam Driver.
I also adore this dirty blonde 80s bowl cut Charlize has been rocking.
Her hair is never boring and always looks so cool.
rooting for Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach his and hers nominations.
Geena Davis and Wes Studi look great! I'm also genuinely excited that Geena is doing more projects now that are building in profile.
It's great to see Lupita and Jordan out. I'm really hoping this means that she's going to campaign hard for a nomination. It's richly deserved.
I'm gonna start beating the 2020 drum now: Samuel L. Jackson deserves an Honorary Oscar.
Renee rarely hits a false note on the red carpet. SO excited to see what else she wears this season!!
Excellent, gorgeous photos
Geena Davis and Angelina Jolie have the exact same Oscar record.
Both won on their first nod in supporting actress.
Both earned a second nod in best actress.
Both after a long while earned a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award (Oscar statuette).
@Anonny, for what? For (over)playing Nick Fury for the last 10+ years?
In a sea of black and white (zzz), I'm loving the vibrant pops of color (Erivo, Goldsberry, Pugh, our beloved Gugu! Ms. Mbatha Raw), as well as the disco glam styles that Diop (my MVP), Turner, Wilde, etc. are rocking. More, plz.
Davis looks so elegant, and King looks like the queen that she is (long may Regina reign, honey). Not wild about the Madame Tussauds-ness of Ronan, Peele and N'yongo — are she and Lopez expecting (Oscar noms aside)? — but that could be just the still.
And Zellweger, once again, proves how wise it is for her to diversify from Caroline Herrera to couture houses like Schiaparelli, which outfit her as lovely as any.
Who’s with MacKay?
I love Studi's lewk. Bravo!
Charlize does not suit a fringe or that colour,I need my Hitchcock blondes as blonde as can be.
ScarJo is chanelling JLo.
Renee looks like 2002 Renee.
I can’t see beyond Jennifer Lopez.
Awkwafina does not look comfortable in a gown.
Renee for the win!
I felt a litte weird watching the Honoraries and knowing that some people in the room are not there to honor the legends, but to promote themselves to the Oscars.
I hope the Academy changes the date to the second week of August, where no one knows no shit and the focus remains in the honoraries winners and not the 'predictors choice'.
(Go Parasite, go Pain & Glory, go The Irishman, go The Lghthouse!!!)
@Jay, or—I don’t know—during the actual Oscar telecast, as historically honorary Oscars have been handed out. (Surely the Academy’s annual nominees luncheon can make room for/special shout-out to the honorary winners as well.)
Having just seen Dolemite is My Name, I think it's DeVine Joy Randolph
Wilde, and Lopez, and George MacKay look quite good, but my eyes keep drifting back to Renee Elise Goldsberry in that Carolina Herrera. That is A LOT of color - but it looks smashing on her. The other person who I think looks fantastic is Joanne Tucker.
ScarJo gives me an intense SJP vibe with this look
So happy for Geena! Still my favourite actress of all time!
@Ed-Right on man!
La Lopez looked stunning
Ah yes, some of the most fun of the season, beautiful people dressed beautifully! My favourites here - Olivia Wilde in that colour and plunging neckline - gorgeous. I don’t like the dress but Constance Wu is so effortlessly glam.
Regina King channelling goddess, and rightfully so! I’m not familiar with Goldsberry but she is wearing the shit out of that dress! Florence Pugh in that purple - starlet. Geena Davis looks amazing.
I’m getting excited for what’s to come this season.
Although Davis’ Iconic nominated role was lead and Jolie’s was supporting. Will Feldstein be the young fat actress to snap up the Oscar bait role as Mama Cass Elliot in the long rumoured biopic, or age our before a director latches onto the story?
Ed, everything about your comment is grim. I guess you two deserve each other. *shudders* ScARjO316 derp.
