Film Bitch Awards - Heroes, Villains, Action, and More...
by Nathaniel R
We promised to finish up the 2019 Film Bitch Awards so we're doing that. Who talked us into so many categories? Oh that's right, no one but our own movie-loving madness. There's probably a cure for it but we're happy to stay addicted.
HEROES, VILLAINS, DIVAS, and SEXPOTS
The character awards are now complete with honors for titular characters from Harriet and Diamantino and Joker and Us (just making sure you're not skimming but titular works there, too, right?) among other films like Synonyms, Toy Story 4, and Hustlers. As to the latter we realize that Jennifer Lopez factors quite heavily into all six of Hustlers nominations thus far but sometimes you ARE the movie, even if the movie itself is quite good. And, because sometimes moviegoing pleasure is perverse, we even found a way to "honor" Cats...
MUSICAL SEQUENCES and ACTION SETPIECES
Rocketman, Wild Rose, Her Smell, Marriage Story, and Gloria Bell are a few of the films being honored for their song or dance sequences. We don't have two categories for action (though perhaps we should?) as we do with musical numbers so the field is naturally more limited. This year its hogged by the finale* of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (three nominations for Marvel) with a little wuxia and world war on the side via Shadow and 1917, respectively.
UP NEXT: There's just 8 categories left to announce including best cameo performances, best sex scenes, and best endings. Stay tuned.
* Yes yes, we know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't ending but it might have been fun for them to take a year or two off post Endgame just to whet the appetite again given their ubiquity this past decade and the possibility of creative burnout.

Jessica had better get a medal for Diva of the Year. She stole the show in my opinion, not an easy task given the breadth of great characterization.
Surely the hero of the year is Franz Jägerstätter, standing up to Nazism when everyone else just fell in line.
Nat: As far as Us goes, there was one character that wore a mask. Not the character on the poster, and not in the style shown on the poster, but the youngest kid's doppleganger DID initially wear a mask.
Volvagia, girl, they're insulting you in another post.
Lol at Tom Hooper being the line finalist for Best Villain.
What about the utterly beautiful way Taron sang "Your Song", or the levitatingly inspired "Crocodile Rock" at the Troubadour for best musical scene?!
Oh sorry Volvagia, just reread they had valid points and your great comment in this thread is not representative of their valid complaint. Damn Us was great though.
I'm surprised Yoav from SYNONYMS didn't get a nod for Diva of the Year.
No Hero of the year for Marta Cabrera?
Much much much love to Tom Mercier and Carloto Cotta. They're what movies need more of.
I love these extra categories. They always remind me of what fun we had at the movies in the last year. Thank you, Nathaniel.
so far i had not heard of Diamontino but as soon as i post this i will be doing a search - stat! that photo is better than porn (saying this for a friend).
"Finalists: Tom Hooper of Cats."
