I'm having trouble leaving 1938 behind. You?

Have you listened to the 1938 Smackdown yet? Such a lively conversation about very memorable movies, for better and worse. We've embedded it again below but some of my personal favourite bits are Steven Weber's Jimmy Stewart impression, Joanna Robinson's reaction to the "twist" in Of Human Hearts, GLOW's Britney Young talking about having a very expressive face and directors asking you to tone it down, and Claudio's deep hatred of opera voices of the 1930s via The Great Waltz

AS A SPECIAL BONUS TREAT
I was the guest star on "And the Runner Up" Podcast this week discussing 1938 as well though our focus on that podcast was the Best Picture battle between Boys Town and You Can't Take It With You. You can listen to that here. Kevin is such a great guy and will be one of our panelists for the 1965 Smackdown in October.

1938 Articles

We intended to do even more 1938 celebrations -- I can't stop watching movies from this year! -- but we'll have to move on to 1965 (not to mention 2020 as the film year is finally revving up). The clock keeps turning!

Oooo an additional podcast! I'll definitely be listening to that soon!

Loved all the posts about this year. Perhaps not the strongest in terms of supporting actresses, though Fay is giving a whole performance in the Jezebel GIF above, but so many great films. I'm looking forward to all the '65 posts but sorry to hear there were '38 ones that you couldn't fit in.

I've seen a lot from this year but there's always gaps so yes it's hard to leave the year behind.

These smackdown podcasts are HEAVEN to me. I love them.

I also love that Marie Antoinette, with it's single nomination, is the movie that got Claudio into the Oscas. That's so adorable.

(It definitely deserved more!)

I’ve loved the 1938 coverage too! Still trying to catch up on a few of these outstanding screenings inspired by TFEs coverage and not quite ready to move into 1965.

Smackdown coverage has been a blessing, the 1938 podcast lulled me into a good mood.
A glass of wine, and your guests voices were entertaining, witty, and a welcome respite from the daily grind.
Thank you again to Joanna Robinson, Britney Young, Steven Weber, Claudio, and Nathaniel for your animated and insightful discussion. It's clear that you all did this out of love, love for cinema. That's what makes the Smackdown so unique and successful. Bravo.
