Happy 25th to Tom Holland

Happy quarter century today to your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Tom Holland. What do you suppose the next five years of his career holds? It seems like his management is trying to capitalize on the franchise money while also squeezing in indies and voice work to diversify a bit? But while trying to do both at once perhaps they aren't being picky enough about anything. All of his recent projects (Cherry, Chaos Walking, The Devil All The Time, Spies in Disguise, Dolittle, Onward) haven't exactly been bullseyes, either with audiences or critics, and all were fast-fades. Next up: another Spider-Man and the video game adaptation UnchartedIf you were on his management team what would you be suggesting for the next five years?

Honestly I hope he goes back to his Billy Elliot roots and returns to the stage. It would be a change of pace for him and he would probably easily get a Tony nomination. He has an impressive physicality and dance background but how many people know that? Marvel fans might be impressed with his versatility.

Something familial with Jamie Bell.

I am yet to be convinced that he will be anything more than a Hayden Christensen-type "person of the time" to look back on with fondness when you remember a popular franchise. He is charismatic as an actor, but in terms of serious talent, I think (for example) Spider-Man co-stars Zendaya and Angourie Rice will have longer careers.

So my surreptitious advice to Tom would be to capitalise on the moment and keep booking in for franchises and big-budget blockbusters (if he expresses the desire to do more indie work, convince him to keep it balanced and not go overboard).

Also birthday of Marilyn, gone with 36 years of age. 🎂🧁👏

My crush since The Imposible - I'm his contemporary, so don't feel it creepy 🤭

Musical/dance movie with (or without) Zendaya. Make it so!

For example a DIRTY DANCING remake/reboot where he plays the Baby character while Zendaya plays Johnnie. I've said this before and will say it again.

The kid is massively talented and has charisma to spare. He probably should have been nominated for The Impossible and honestly a supporting nod for his work in Infinity War wouldn't have been undeserving either. He just oozes pure charm. I really wish Spielberg had snatched him for West Side Story.

I hope he gets to be in a musical and some comedies. He's got a bright future ahead of him while I also hope he gets to appear in a few more MCU projects and then pass the torch to someone to be the next Spider-Man ala Miles Morales.

Tobey Maguire is still my Spider-Man but I have a lot of love for Tom Holland as the one thing he does better than Tobey is having a better music soundtrack than Tobey did.

he needs to do a musical, that's for sure (and i'm surprised no one has offered him to do it at this point, tbh)

June 1, 2021 | Unregistered Commentereduardo

Ok actor but I don’t like twinks.....

June 1, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterJohn

Chaos Walking & Cherry were done dirty by critics. And he's stellar in both of them.

A five-year hiatus.

He needs to move beyond pretty boy status and demonstrate some authority in his craft. As a member of his management team, I would urge him to articulate his command of acting by serving on a Smackdown Panel.

June 1, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterJames

He is already 25 years old. I still see him as a teenager. Personally, I think that he should take advantage of the salary opportunities because they may not last forever.

June 1, 2021 | Unregistered Commenterharmodio

My suggestion for him would be to date me for the next five years.

June 1, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterJohn T

He comes off a bit cold and fake in interviews and such. It feels strange i'm the only one who sees it. Decent actor though.

June 1, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterDana

He's just 25 yo and looking younger. Hollywood does not have many great roles for men this age even if they look more conventionally masculine.
But he's charismatic, very talented and has been pushing himself as an actor as of late. He will stumble upon a great actor-y role in a well received project eventually.

I'd love to see him do a musical (either film or stage) but I did hear somewhere that Tom Holland feels he lost his singing voice when his voice changed so he might be hesitant to do one now despite getting his start in one.

Doing stage or allowing himself to be directed by an auteur would be the way to go. I would also not be against him doing a really cool limited series for a cable or streaming platform.

He's SO winning a couple of Oscars at least, in the near future. He's not only extremely talented, he's extremely likeable... unless he begins having problems with addictions, he's a sure bet to dominate Hollywood in the next decade. And I am really happy for him, still impressed by his magnificent work in "The Impossible", that should have been his first Oscar win.

Porn.

June 2, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterJake Gyll

@Jake Gyllenhaal have you two fucked yet?

June 2, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterLaVona

Echoing the suggestion he do a musical.

It's hard today because there are so few non-franchise movies being made today, so he's in a bloodbath with every other young actor for the tiny few juicy film roles available.

I'd love to see him find a director who can challenge him and shepherd him into more adult roles - a scorcese to his Leo.

June 2, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterPhilip

Pretty disturbed by some of the highly sexualizing comments about Tom Holland doing porn. I can't imagine anyone here taking it lightly if people started suggesting that Lily Collins or Emilia Clarke should get into porn/Only Fans as a career move. It's not a free for all just because he's male, folks.

As for his career over the next five years, I'd echo the sentiments that he should try and do a musical and some stage work for the longevity. I know the money must be amazing when you're a part of a franchise such as Marvel, but my God does it kill your creativity. He could be a very versatile actor in the making. Maybe a surprise Tony Award Winner in the future? I could see it. A gritty TV series would also be great.

And yes, he should have been Oscar nominated for The Impossible. His scenes with Naomi Watts constitute some of the film's best stuff. I'm interested to see where he's going.

June 2, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterPaul

I would do a big leading man film that moves him away from boyish characters. Ideally it would be a song and dance musical.

June 2, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterRaul

A nom for The Avenger movie? I laughed for 5 minutes.

June 2, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterTony AKA Fernando

LaVona, that's a fake Jake.

June 2, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterGeorge

I just can't help it... "The Impossible" is literally a masterpiece... why it wasn't nominated for Picture, Director, Actress, Actor (McGregor), Supp. Actor (Holland), Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Visual Effects, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Film Editing, Production Design, Score, Make Up... is just beyond me. An almost perfect film... the tsunami scene is literally unparalleled yet. But the real meat of the film is the yuxtaposition between the family's good luck and the massacre surrounding them... a reflection on privilege that is underlined masterfully in the final minutes.

June 2, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterJesus Alonso

Travis C: He hasn't quite gotten the right role in the right thing yet, but, well, he's 25 and looks 18. I'd say Ansel Elgort is way more likely to be Today's Hayden Christensen (with Baby Driver as his Shattered Glass analogue), though.

June 2, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

Has had more loads than Betty Ford.

June 3, 2021 | Unregistered CommenterLouella

@JesusAlonso isn't Holland rather clearly the true lead of The Impossible though? And I agree with you on most fronts (it's a superb movie and Watts Oscar nom, while looked down on at the time, was very deserved). I would have Holland in lead and McGregor in supporting and both probably narrowly missing my own lineup but very much in the conversation.
