Washington Post reviews a new book on Elizabeth Taylor & Montgomery Clift's friendship
TFE <--- in case you missed it we discussed every one of Clift's films for his centennial this past fall
Vulture To say we're thrilled to hear that Todd Haynes will be reuniting with Julianne Moore for his next film, is an understatement. It's a psychodrama called May December in which Natalie Portman will play an actress who is playing Moore's character in a movie based on her scandalous love affair.

I still miss River Phoenix as I think My Own Private Idaho was just the start of better things to come only to lose him 2 years later.

I have a feeling Kirsten's Oscar time has finally come.fingers crossed after a 27 year wait.

I'm really excited for that Moore/Portman/Haynes team-up.

Running on Empty is one of my top ten favorite films, and my absolute favorite coming of age film. I've watched it a half dozen times, and it floors me every time. River Phoenix is riveting.

Good for Brooke Smith. She is so great. She should be a two-time Oscar nominee IMO for “Silence” & “Vanya”.

Special mention to Christine Lahti who is also wonderful in Running on Empty. Such an underrated actress.

Brooke Smith is a great actress. She should have been nominated for the arc on SVU. And remember her in 'Vanya on 42nd Street'? She's always good.
I wouldn't call Lahti underrated, she's had a great career, and was nominated for 'Swing Shift'
I would call her ageless b/c she's 71?!

That laudatory piece on Harrison Ford is clearly the first PR brick in building a solid case for the AMPAS Board of Governors to choose the movie star for its next Honorary Oscar recipient. Vote will be held at the upcoming annual meeting in August or September.

I really miss River Phoenix. I just watched "My Own Private Idaho" last night, and he's amazing in it, especially the campfire scene which he apparently improvised. I haven't seen all his films, but he was brilliant in all the ones I've seen--Stand By Me, Running on Empty, Dogfight, Sneakers, My Own Private Idaho, heck, even in "A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon."

I love Running on Empty. It never fails to suck me in and move me. Christine Lahti is wonderful, but the film really does belong River Phoenix (who is clearly the lead character).

That being said, every character gets a good moment. The little brother's disappointed complaint that they've never had to leave their dog behind is followed by quick acceptance. It establishes so we'll early on that he's still a kid, but he is so used to impermanence.

I like River Phoenix but I don’t understand the obsession people have with him.

I’ve always loved Monty Cliff’s and Liz Taylor’s friendship. They were so beautiful together in A Place in the Sun.

May Todd Haynes and all the important gay directors continue to give all the interesting and leading roles to all the great straight actresses..
