• AV Club Winston Duke, so memorable as M'Baku, is getting an expanded role in Black Panther 2 which just resumed production. That's the good news. The bad news is that they haven't recast Shuri so a celebrity anti-vaxxer will still be playing an scientific genius (a terrible message to be sending young kids who idolize superheroes)
• NYT "and the nominees should be..." personal ballots from Manohla Dargis and A.O. Scott which differ a lot but lean heavily into Ryusuke Hamaguchi's two movies (Drive My Car and Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy), plus Passing and Power of the Dog. Just a minor correction. Netflix is raising prices now. The "October" part is this is the first time SINCE they raised priced back in October 2020.
I don't have Showtime so I haven't seen YELLOWJACKETS yet, but I'm so happy for Ricci/Lynskey getting much deserved attention from everyone. I look forward to seeing this somehow later.
Now I have to add SHOWTIME to my other (counting...) eight premium streaming services? Gurgle.
I for one will not tolerate any slander on Melanie Lynskey. I think she is a beautiful woman and her body is nothing to be ashamed of so fuck all of those body-shamers.
thevoid99- someone on Yellowjacket production told Lynskey that she should get a personal trainer to "help her" The cast wasn't having any of it and Juliette Lewis wrote a letter to everyone in production about the unprofessional behavior.
Yellowjackets is not that good. We're just desperate.
It's all wrong for the show for multiple reasons, but at some point, Ella Purnell has to play a young Susan Sarandon - it's all I've been able to see since the Yellowjackets premiere.
