Tweetweek: Nope, Crawdads, and the ongoing saga of the great Barbie vs Oppenheimer war of 2023
!!!
Gore Vidal, Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, James Dean, and Anthony Perkins all lived together at Shirley MacLaine’s house in Malibu in the summer of 1954, before any of them had really “made it” in Hollywood. I’d like to watch a stage play/film about THAT.

Jordan Peele made a full on Spielberg summer blockbuster filled with wonder and dread that ends being less about what’s in the sky and ultimately settles on the below-the-line freaks peppering every film shoot who make this kind of magic sing. I fucking loved Nope. So much. pic.twitter.com/ZMcJuBQ2hs

Get Out. Us. Nope. It’s wild that Jordan Peele is three for three on movies with absolutely awful SEO. Supreme confidence.

and not to end on a killjoy note, but, sorry...
starting to think that all the online excitement about 2023's summer of BARBIE / OPPENHEIMER is a direct commentary on how generally disappointing the 2022 would be summer blockbusters have been.

Do you really think that re Oppenheimer/Barbie? Sure Lightyear and Jurassic disappointed in their own ways, but Top Gun, Nope and Elvis have me believing that audiences are totally ready to move beyond superheroes and sequels (I mean, Top Gun notwithstanding) in the summer.
Mike in Canada: Since you mentioned Elvis and Nope, both of those are exactly what Barbie and Oppenheimer will be next summer: the latest entries by some of out most celebrated auteurs, and if that's what we start getting every summer from now on, I'd say summer movie season will be in good shape indeed.
I would totally like to see that movie about everyone in Shirley MacLaine's house. Just make sure the casting is spot-on and have Shirley be the narrator.
I'd wear that pin.
That is an ugly-ass hat on Melania. Then again, she has 0 taste in fashion. She's so awful, if I was a full-on gay man. I'd walk back to the fucking closet out of shame.
I absolutely require that AMC Kidman pin.
that would make for one of the greatest LGTBQ+ films ever...the Shirley McLaine's summer house.
