European Film Awards: "Anatomy of a Fall" Sweeps!
The European Film Academy loves itself a sweep, and this year did nothing to disprove their inclination. At the same time it keeps winning critics honors stateside, Justine Triet's Anatomy of a Fall took home four prizes, adding to the trophy it already earned for editing. Sandra Hüller even defeated herself since she was also nominated for The Zone of Interest, a first in EFA history. In her speech, the actress asked her audience to imagine peace in these troubled times while her director joked that making the film was a test on her relationship with partner and co-screenwriter Arthur Harari. The ceremony took place in Berlin this year, presided by Agnieszka Holland and host Britta Steffenhagen.

The sweep makes me want to revisit the film. I liked it but did not feel the oomph that Palme D’or winners usually have, in my opinion. Or maybe I was honestly spoiled by loving the last 3 winners (Triangle of Sadness, Titane, Parasite). I don’t see Anatomy of a Fall fitting in with that company. It was obviously competently made but I yearned for Justine Triet to display a more interesting voice than what I saw.
While sometimes tough to watch, Sandra Huller elevates the film so very much. She is an incredible actress, better than 99.9% of all working actors in English-language films.
Anatomy of a Fall is perhaps my favourite Palme d'Or winner since 2008.
MJC -- Hüller really is one of the best working actors we have nowadays. Fingers crossed she gets that Oscar nomination.
I really like the information you share. I learned a lot of new and useful knowledge from your post. slope
