Cannes Winners for the 76th Edition
by Nathaniel R
The 76th edition of Cannes has wrapped. The closing ceremony brought an end to a week plus of speculation about prizes. French auteur Justine Triet, of Sybiil fame, took the coveted Palme d'Or for her fourth narrative feature, Anatomy of a Fall. She's only the third female director to win the prize (after Jane Campion for The Piano and Julia Ducornau for Titane) though the fifth woman (Actresses Léa Seydoux and Adele Exarchopolous shared the Palme with their director in a non-traditional jury decision the year of Blue is the Warmest Colour).
A whole slew of awards (and, thus, titles to look out for at future festivals) are after the jump...

This was a good festival this year. I want to see all of these films.
Thanks Elisa, Claudio and the team for the fantastic Cannes coverage and features.
Pretty sweet list of awards winners - a lot of the most intriguing foreign In Competition films will get much wider releases just by virtue of these wins.
It was a good but not great festival this year and Nathaniel, since this year's Cannes film festival is done. Let us know when you are finish your 96th Academy Award nominations predications please.
Obviously looking forward to all the big winners, but having a Queer Palm winner getting a Best Screenplay as well makes MONSTER the must-watch-now film for me. Can't wait.
Having seen the eventual Palme winner and many of the top prize winners (all but The Pot-au-FeuFallen Leaves & Monster) this was an extremely strong year for the historical film festival. I am so happy about the Triet win as her feature this year was so incredibly entertaining. I also enjoy how the film won but the Palme D'or and Palme Dog because the latter prize is just as well deserved with the roll the dog plays in the plot.
I look forward to see what the features that premiered here go on to do during the rest of the film year as there were many films worthy of praise. I also look forward to Sandra Hüller getting her major moment with both Zone of Interest and Anatomy likely to hit stateside later this year. She is an actress whose proven herself multiple times since her stellar breakthrough in Requiem (2006) and she seems likely to be a major treat in the Actress conversation this year. Who else can say they have two of the best reviewed films of the year which require them to perform in three languages.
The 10+ days of Cannes each year is, not gonna lie, maybe my favorite time of the year. Every year I sit at home and fantasize about what it’d be like to actually be there as I read updates from people on the ground while also dancing around spoilers for these films. I’m sure there are some downsides but man, the chance to see these kinds of movies and be a part of their discovery must honestly be magical. What I wouldn’t give to have a press badge and go there in person.
Huller has just crashed the upcoming Best Actress race in a major way.
