First & Last 008

Can you guess the movie from its first and last shot?

The answer is after the jump once you scroll down...

NOT YET, CARY!

That opening shot is Cary Grant entering Monkey Business (1952) a beat or three too soon. Though this delightful comedy is from the early 1950s its spirit is with the old screwball classics of the 1930s. The lucky girl in the last shot is Ginger Rogers who has finally trained her husband (Cary) to prioritize correctly.  Such a funny movie. It's currently streaming on the Criterion Channel which is easily the best of all streaming services so if you aren't subscribed yet... *shakes head*.

Monkey Business is showing as part of the channel's Marilyn Monroe program for her June birthday. That said Gemini Marilyn is fourth-billed here and very much fourth in the cast list with Ginger Rogers best-in-show and Cary Grant and the always reliable Charles Coburn getting the bulk of the screen time and laughs. Monkey Business will oddly always remind me of my birthday since I went with a bunch of friends to see it five years back and we had a blast. On the last day of Gemini season it seemed like the right film to toss at you. Happy belated birthday to all my fellow Gemini twins!

I have never seen this film though there's a lot of films with Cary Grant that I haven't seen.
