Curio: On a Cute Streak

Alexa here with your weekly arts and crafts. Chelsea Patterson moved to Los Angeles with an art degree and a dream.  When creative work was hard to find, she started waitressing and eventually decided to focus her energies making art celebraing her favorite movies. Her goal was to keep her designs full of delightful details, and her etsy shop CuteStreakDesigns was born. I like her off-kilter take on some of my favorites, like this print for The Conversation.

Curio: Lair of Soveyshina

Alexa here with some movie crafts fit for Halloween. Russian artist Victoria Shakirova has been making dolls as long as she can recall.  She loves miniature dolls, friends that can stand near a computer monitor or on a bookshelf. She likes that they don't take up too much space, and small details are important to her.  She has a nice selection of film character dolls of a spookier variety, all for sale at her etsy shop

Curio: Heartbeats Club

Alexa here with your weekly art break.  Ivonna Buenrostro is an illustrator from Toluca De Lerdo, Mexico with a love of film. Watching movies daily with pencils handy, she creates wonderful sketches that she later colorfully transforms in Photoshop.

Enjoy several after the jump...

The Monty revealed by the publicity machine is surprisingly close to the Monty of my imaginings: intuitive, self-loathing, tentative, magnetic. [More...]

Curio: We're at (Crimson) Peak Excitement

Alexa here with your weekly art appreciation.  The internet excitement over the release of Crimson Peak is at a fever pitch: Gothic romance! Tom Hiddleston sex scenes! Giant creepy Victorian house! Tom Hiddleston being sexy!  It's like fanfiction come to life.  Of course, the return of Guillermo Del Toro's visual sumptuousness brings its own excitement, especially for some visual artists out there. Little White Lies filled its latest issue with art inspired by the film; they're also curating an exhibition celebrating all of Del Toro's films, with an artist interpreting each film as a Victorian-era gothic book cover.

Here are some other creations I've spotted recently that were perhaps made during repeat viewings of the trailer. See them after the jump...
