I don't think Nolan's getting nominated.

@arkaan he so is.

has anyone considered blue valentine as a possible last-minute slot-stealer for BP? it just seems to have so much support from within the hollywood community....

I really love your podcasts. Hope you do one again soon.

I think 127 Hours will make it for BP, but not for Director. Maybe it would fall for 6th.

I love these, too. Such a great listen -- and I haven't even seen most of the films yet.

cici -- i hadn't but i can see why that might come up. In the end I think it will be viewed as an "actors movie" and there are too many strong films in the main running.

morgan and malcolm -- thank you!

Oohh, podcasts for my ears! Got so much catch up to do. I just learned today that Natalie Portman is pregnant (no kidding)... The wonders of almost a month offline.

1. Yes, I have to praise the podcasts as well. Loved them.

2. I dunno about Nolan. I don't see what's different now for best director vs two years ago.

Hell yeah, the gangs all back!

NATHANIEL: I so feel your rage re: a possible Jacki Weaver snub. I mean, to have worked in both theater and the (Australian) film industry for decades and finally, at age 63, gaining international recognition and a possible Oscar nomination for a brilliant performance, only to get robbed by a 27-year-old coasting off sex appeal and a 14-year old committing category fraud is down-right infuriating. I’m just praying all this worrying proves for nothing and Mo’nique calls her name on January 25.

JOE: Funny as hell and happy to hear you are a fan of David Lindsay-Abaire’s RABBIT HOLE screenplay; I was genuinely shocked the WGA snubbed it, even with WINTER’S BONE and TOY STORY 3 ineligible. And the hardest part is, while I think it can nudge into that last 5th spot, the equally wonderful GHOST WRITER is now being touted as a dark horse.

NICK: Witty as always and I’m behind you all the way on Fassbender in FISH TANK. Such a fantastic performance in a genuinely tricky role. I should also thank you as your high grade and intriguing comments on the film originally prompted me to order it from amazon.co.uk back in early fall (and it turned out to be one of my five favorite films of the year).

KATIE: Thanks for giving a shout out to Kristin Scott Thomas’s performance in NOWHERE BOY. It’s bizarre how little awards traction she’s gotten in the US but as you guys mentioned, Weinstein Co. seems to have turned all their attention to THE KING’S SPEECH. And I love the discussion about the score category (beautifully put about Burnwell and Mansell, btw). But you must check out John Powell’s enchanting score for HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON—while it’s no quite as innovative as SOCIAL NETWORK’s it’s still sublime.

Thanks so much you guys for a funny, informative and highly entertaining podcast. Really hope all of you come back to discuss Oscar nomination morning.

Ryan -- thank YOU for such a thorough inclusive comment. I'm meeting with Jacki Weaver tomorrow. I will try to contain myself from expressing my outrage when we don't even know if we need to be outraged yet :)

This was awesome, I'm so glad you did this again. I loved the lament over critisizing below-the-line work:) And I'm actually totally rooting against Steinfeld. I thought she was nothing special. Well, clerly not top 5 in either category. So even if Bonham-Carter is undeserving(haven't seen the movie yet) at least she's a great, underrewarded actress not commiting category fraud. So I hope she doesn't get squeezed out somehow (and I would have picked her in Alice in Wonderland over Steinfeld too, for sure). My biggest fear overall is a Kidman snub. If she misses, it'll be Swank-in-Million$Baby/Crash all over again in terms of my rage.
And I totally would have loved a You haven't seen the last of me recital:)

My dream nomination is a Blue Valentine best picture one. I don't really care who gets left off because of it.

Just a technical note: For those of us who are unfamiliar with your voices it would help if you introduced yourselves.

These podcasts so help me get through the week, especially right before midterms. Please make more, I LOVE them like Leonardo DiCaprio loves emotionally unstable movie wives.
