Ryan & Anne ... Sitting in a Tree...
Two of our best recent additions to the A List of Movie Stardom share a birthday, so let's sing a collective off pitched "happy birthday" for Ryan Gosling and Anne Hathaway today, turning 31 and 29. Given Ryan Gosling's absurdly potent chemistry with virtually all female co-stars, and his and Anne's mutual "photoshopped" bodies (seriously?), we're pretty certain that Hathaway is already stripping and running for the bedroom set if anyone offers them a movie together...
Isn't it weird that Hollywood hasn't thought to pair them?
If Ryan keeps up his current pace and doesn't quit the movies to make babies as he threatened earlier this year he'll soon have co-starred with virtually every important age-appropriate actress. By this time in 2013 we'll have seen him with rising Rooney Mara (Lawless) and reunited with Emma Stone (Gangster Squad). And he's already worked magic with McAdams, Wood, Mulligan, Dunst, and Williams!
I recently suggested that I thought he'd look great with Andrea Riseborough (or TV stars Deborah Ann Woll or Katee Sackhoff if anyone would ever give them the big screen role they deserve.) but readers countered with some man-on-man suggestions. And since Gosling's enviable range hasn't yet dropped him into a gay role, what's your favorite reader suggestion there?
Anne Hathaway hasn't been paired as frequently with opposite sex peers who share her star wattage with the notable exceptions of Gyllenhaal (twice), McAvoy, and Christian Bale next year (at least we assume the Bat and the Cat are still going to be scrappy sex partners, though who knows! Nolan's films do tend to swerve asexual.)
Who would you love to see Anne Hathaway paired with once she's out of the cat suit?
P.S. Today would have been Grace Kelly's 82nd birthday. We were just discussing the casting of her upcoming biopic.
P.P.S. Easy ways to kill time today on tumblr: Fuck Yeah, Anne Hathaway, Ryan Gosling vs. Puppies, Feminist Ryan Gosling.

Anne and I are 29 today. God I've wasted my 20s. Oh well, I can look forward to becoming more Bea Arthur like as I age.
Rebecca Hall. Underrated. Thought she was great in Everything Must Go this year. Underrated movie.
Was hoping she would get the role in Trance opposite James McAvoy since they were so good together in Starter for Ten.
gosling and page. duh.
Happy birthday Ryan, Anne and //3rtful!
//3rtful - You haven't wasted anything! You weren't supposed to spend it any other way. All ways are good. Except, you know.. no drugs.
The "Untitled Kurt Cobain Project"/Kurt Cobain biopic based on "Heavier Than Heaven" just came to my mind once Ryan Gosling was the most wanted man to play Kurt and Scarlett Johansson the most wanted actress to play Courtney Love...
Ryan Gosling and Kurt aren't twins, but so it happens with Michelle Williams and Marilyn Monroe - what matters are the acting chops. Scarlett kind looks like Courtney and she won a Tony recently so maybe...
What do you think Nathaniel? Do you think that Ryan and Scarlett would make a great couple on-screen as the legendary grunge lovers or you would cast another actress to pair with Gosling?
Thank you James. I'm against using drugs myself but I'm fine with others smoking mother nature's gift.
Poor Eric Bana and Andrea Riseborough. Maybe they should make out with each other.
I would've added Javier Bardem to the poll, even if I prefer him as Fassy sex partner, not Gosling's.
The only thing that comes to my ming reading this post is Henry & June. Maybe a remake with Hathaway + Emily Blunt + Gosling?
Ed, someone already masterfully played Courtney Love onscreen (and no, I'm not talking about Love in The People vs. Larry Flynt): Chloe Webb in Sid and Nancy. Who could top *that* performance?
iggy - please, do not give the idea of remaking Henry&June... Maria de Medeiros is simply wonderful in that one and I love her!
Mareko - no no no... Courtney Love payed a lot of attention to Chloe Webb in the shooting of "Sid and Nancy" and she has been trying to play her... she didn't "exist" before 1989!
I wish happy birthday for Anne and Ryan. They are the best actors from the 80s generations. The academy Instute presented the future actors are in january: Anne H. and James franco. Anne is very brilliant but J. Franco is terrible and boring.Anne and Ryan will be much better. Anne will be great in the Dark night rises and Ryan will be also great in the Gangster squad. He will be working in the future with Terence Mallick and Christian Bale in the Lawless. I'm waiting this movie. Michael Fassbender is also fucking great.
I know I will be stoned for this, but I think Anne Hathaway is one of the most annoying actresses in Hollywood right now. Other than her dynamic performance in Rachel Getting Married which should've won her the Oscar that year, she has played in terrible movie after terrible movie, at least for me (Bride Wars, Love and Other Drugs, One Day)...girl needs to get it together and actually show some talent and charisma, because actresses like Emma Stone and Mila Kunis are showing her up!
But I agree with everything said about Ryan! He IS the actor of this generation!!!
Emily Blunt of course, it would be the perfect combination, the perfect state.
Chastain is younger than him but looks more mature, most of the others have too strong of a "girly" type.
I'm asexual and the sexlessness of Nolan's oeuvre makes me a little annoyed that he chose this Batman villain. Bane I get. Talia Al Ghul, if she's there, I kind of get, because he's already set up Ra's. So, if it was mainly wanting a third villain, which I'm guessing it might have been, I'd prefer him to have done Mad Hatter (scariest interpretation is he's a pedophile serial killer obsessed with Lewis Carroll) or Firefly (psycho arsonist in insect armor.)
Casting suggestion:
For Mad Hatter, I'd suggest Simon Pegg, or, even though I know this is dirty, dirty typecasting, Rhys Ifans.
For Firefly, I'd suggest Jake Gyllenhaal or, because I think he was really good in Observe and Report, Seth Rogen.
I want to see him with Mila! That would be hot hot hot.
Rebecca Hall would be great too. And then I'd like some repeats.
As for guys, I'd like to see him with JGL because they're my two favorite actors.
Ewan McGregor would be cute; Andrew Garfield would be hot.
PLEASE let's get Ryan Gosling in a gay drama haha.
/3rtfull HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU!
Thank you Nathan!
Happy Birthday! Instead of, or in addition to a gay drama, I would love to see Gosling faces off with these male co-stars. Imagine fatal attraction if you will!
I'm a happily married straight guy, but Gosling and Fassbender together? Holy shit.
Reminds me of that tweet that if Gosling and Fassy were in a remake of Brokeback Mountain, there wouldn't be any straight men left.
Also, for women, Abbie Cornish because she needs better work. For guy, JGL because he can totally outact Gosling.
keira knightley and ryan gosling!
and what about Sarah Polley and Ryan Gosling?
I've been wanting Ryan and Keira to work together *for ages*. Sigh. Hoping, praying, wishing they do a romantic comedy together.
Gosling is a great complement to the actresses he works with. It's one of the things I really like about him, that he's so open to partnership with them, not shying away from romanticism if appropriate. I'd like to see him with Abbie Cornish. She mixes toughness and thoughtfulness so well, and I can see him appreciating that. Gosling did look absolutely perfect in that photo with Rooney Mara. I almost expected the caption to be that they were expecting their first child.
And I'd like to see Gosling and Ryan Reynolds as romantic partners in a really really well-written comedy.
I've never thought of Ryan with Keira, but now after mun and Danielle have mention it - oh yes please!
"and what about Sarah Polley and Ryan Gosling?"
I like this idea. Two of Canada's greats acting together in a comedy or drama? Intriguing to say the least, though given their strengths as actors, I can more easily see them in a drama than a comedy.
Alas, not sure how Gosling would go for it. He doesn't strike me as the type to hold grudges, but still... Polley pubicly dissed his first commerically successful movie, The Notebook. Granted, she didn't say anything bad about him, but she really dissed the movie. Some actors can get touchy about those types of things, though.
I agree this idea too: Sarah Polley and Ryan Gosling are together in a romantic movie.
The director for this movie: David Cronenberg or James Cameron. Supporting roles : Jim Carrey and Pamela Anderson and Seth Rogen. CANADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Canadian actors are very brilliant.
Too true, Steve75, too true. We do have an impressive list of talented actors. Unfortunately, the vast majority of our major talent head south to the USA to find work. The irony being that most americans film in Canada!
As for your fictional film with Gosling and Polley...might I suggest a few changes? David Cronenberg is too out there - talented he is, but with a perchant for horror and scifi that doesn't always work. James Cameron is a dick. Talented one (er, not his dick - that I know of!), but he's difficult and demanding (not in a good way) and is just a plain ass from what I've heard. I can't see Polley ever agreeing to work with or for him. Change the director to Norman Jewison, lure the grand ol' man out of retirement and see him work one last wonder. Supporting players should be other well known and respected canucks. Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Alison Pill, Saul Rubinek, Ryan Reynolds, Jay Bachruel, Seth Rogen...etc.
