Liza with a Z(owie!)
Thanks to PopBytes for alerting me -- MK is as big a Liza fan as me -- Check out this new photoshoot of 65 year old Liza Minnelli by celebrity photographer Terry Richardson.
Wowie-Zowie. Life is still a cabaret. The pics were shot for the UK's "Love" magazine.
More fun shots after the jump.
The photos are awesome enough that they suddenly reminded me of hte time when Liza was reborn into pop culture when the Pet Shop Boys grabbed a hold of her for her "Results" CD in 1989. Anyone remember that? The 80s were a dark dark decade for fans of musicals and old fashioned bonafide showgirls like Minnelli. But HA! Liza had the last laugh by returning just as the decade bit it, still kicking.
Last time I saw Liza live her voice was pretty wrecked which was sad but recently I saw Lucky Lady (1975) -- available finally on home viewing -- and I fell all over again. People forget what a truly gifted comedic actress she is. I'm always hoping new filmmakers have similar affections for older performances and give them a final great showcase. But if that doesn't happen at least she got that fun run on Arrested Development as a reminder for all in the Aughts.

GO GIRL!
I am a huge fan of RESULTS. Such a great (and campy) album.
Liza looks superb here. I saw her a couple years back at the Palace and she was amazing. I was very impressed.
Terry Richardson is such a joke.
That first picture is a knockout. A-Mazing! The rest are also fun (lots of cleavage- wowza!) and I love her version of "Losing My Mind", my favorite Sondheim song- thanks for the fun link!
"Results" is a brilliant album.
Talk about an overly dramatic ... in the worst sense ... lady.
She tries to be her mother and "dahling this and dahling that" ... such a phony!!!
I loved Judy Garland, and she could get away with anything, but Liza is a train-wresk.
sorry .... wreck
Have some respect! Liza's survived more than a lot of other talents (Amy Winehouse, anyone?), and always bounces back. Marriage to David Guest alone would have ruined any other mortal woman. I advise the haters to go watch Cabaret again and then reconsider their opinions.
I remember this 80s album as her middle-aged comeback... and she was younger then than I am now...
Maybe I just love a good trainwreck.
She's a Legend, and a true talent. I think it's crass when people go on and on about her marriage or her personal life. She's a gifted actress, and she seems to be doing great. Those pictures are really interesting, and she looks lovely.Although I agree that Terry Richardson is kind of a hack. He's only a such a well known photographer because of his dad.
She looks ageless in the first shot.
That first shot is insta-amazing.
LOL I had no idea this version of "Losing My Mind" existed -- a very interesting, semi-successful take on it, I must say.
My grandma was at the hospital around the time Results came up. I used to listen to it no end in my walkman (do you remember the walkman!!?) walking up and down the hospital aisles. My grandma passed away in that hospital bed. Although the album is associated with that sad moment, I still love it now, only with a bittersweet feel to it.
In an sunny note I am still a huge fan of Liza. I think I've seen Cabaret more that 15 times. Never gets old. Sally Bowles! That voice! and her comic timing! She doesn't need anymore than that to be remembered and praised. Don't believe me? wait till the 70's characters poll come up.
Seisgrados -- the 70s character poll is already in progress. Sally Bowles is doing just fine. Currently #1 with Nurse Ratched chasing her.
Everyone has their opinion ... I agree Cabaret was great and so was she ... but a legend? NO a caricature and a diva ( in a negative sense? ) YES
