Whenever I want to dive into some totally obscure film topic and spend 100s of hours writing an article only 10 people would ever want to read or realize that my own personal obsessions are just not mainstream enough for the enormous success I'd definitely enjoy, I think of all of you. Whenever I remember that time an editor looked at me like I was insane when I pitched a Norma Shearer book ("do you want more than 500 people to read it?") I think of you. Keep your head up. Research the hell out of whatever it is you're researching. Write the hell out of it.

Ooh- I hadn't heard the Cannavale news and I'm ecstatic. I was just wondering this weekend who they'd cast. Cannavale will need to work on his refinement, but otherwise- it's a very exciting choice.

I think I have to stop visiting film sites for a few months (as if) because I totally have to see Shame like a week ago! I keep being reminded that people have seen it. People who are not me!
What am I going to do? I'll have to try not to get hit by a car cause I might never see the damn thing! (Not Fassbender's thing. That too. It's so hard! Not that thing! The anticipation! I give up..)

I look at it like this. If I'm researching a topic that has a limited readership, there's a good chance that I'm one of the only people researching it. That makes me an early expert if it ever does catch on like wildfire. You hear that, editor who rejected my article on The Pang Brothers' contribution to the style and pacing of modern Hong Kong/Chinese horror films? I'm a trailblazer and you missed out.
Whatever helps me sleep at night.
