Oscar Ballots Are in the Mail

Soon electronic voting will speed Oscar up. (How long before we see Oscar night moving to January?) Hopefully distributors will take pity on the public and AMPAS members and start opening movies before December to help that along (oh who are we kidding?!?). But until that instant voting happens, the post office will be involved. The final Oscar ballots hit the mail today, with those SAG wins fresh in voter's minds if they were watching. Dujardin, Davis, Plummer and Spencer could well repeat if they liked what they saw.

To mark the balloting occassion our annual Oscar Symposium is about to begin! Day One hits the site tonight. So join the party in the comments once the festivities kick off.

I think Dujardin repeating at the Oscars is more likely than some pundits think. Clooney needs to win the BAFTA to remain the frontrunner, in my view. And I don't think he will. If Dujardin wins the BAFTA, I will be betting on him to win the Oscar. If Oldman wins the BAFTA (which is a distinct possibility), it will still hurt Clooney just in the respect that it exposes his vulnerability. Either way, I think it's going to be a close race going into Oscar night. I kept telling people that they were calling this race for Clooney way too early, and see? I was right about something! (Granted, that's one of the few things I have been right about this season.)

nathaniel,
I don't know if you have set a date, but when will you post about the ranking of streep performances?
imagine if you end up leaving it for after the oscars? meryl fans will be in no mood to comment on it lol (I believe viola will win. and I'm beginning to think it's the better outcome, for fear of the backlash of meryl winning. the internet is crazy with race/racism talk!)

I think this Oscar race is so exciting to watch. The supporting categories are pretty much guaranteed (and although supporting actor is a boring category, supporting actress is still fun), but the lead races are really fun. Viola has the edge right now, but Meryl could definitely win the BAFTA and that will probably boost her up a little bit. As for Actor, I think George is super vulnerable right now, and my money is on Jean for the Oscar, even if a lot of it wishful thinking. BUT I do think it could definitely happen. I definitely don't think George is going to get the BAFTA.
