Randomness: Who Will Cher Vote For at the Oscars?
I'm working on a Madonna piece at the moment but couldn't resist popping in to share tweets from another legendary pop diva we adore who dabbles in the movies: the Oscar winning Cher. She regularly responds to fan tweets and this very random question about eating at McDonalds with Britney Spears 'would she?' gets a funny response.
She recently answered a question of who she loved with working with "Meryl,Stanly,Kurty,My darling little girls CR&Nonie !!!" Yes, Meryl, who we've just been discussing, was name-checked twice this week. But then there's this...
Cher *just* saw The Help, one presumes at an AMPAS screening, and it sounds like for the first time. She tweeted that she came out of the theater crying. But if she only just saw The Help one has to wonder whose names she scribbled down on the nomination ballots weeks ago. She must be way behind on her screeners.
Silly Comment Game of the Day: Tell us who you think Cher nominated and who she is going to vote for? She loves The Help "you brought joy to my heart!" but her dear friend Mary Louise Streep is also in the running. Predicament.

this is funny. I bet she votes for Viola anyway. She's secretly jealous of Meryl. It's so weird to think of certain Academy members actually watching these movies and filling out a ballot. Did Celeste Holm watch Melancholia? Did Ernest Borgnine love 'Moneyball ?
She votes for Meryl, definitely
Who is Stanly?
Nathan I'm not on twitter ask her about Sandy Dennis and Bates, please I'll be your best friend.
I bet she voted for Charlize Theron in the nomination process, as her twitter-love for Kathy Griffin shows she really loves a sassy bitch-diva ;)
And if she talk with la Streep in this days, Cher will vote for Viola, because I guess that when the subject comes up, Meryl will start to praise Viola, and Cher knows from experience that Meryl doesn't care if a friend is the one that wins over her. :D
Do you think Oscar nomination ballots are as holy to Academy voters as they are to Oscarwatchers?
Have any statistics been released to point out that all Academy voters actually return their final ballots, much less their nomination ballots?
I just don't think these people, or at least All of these people, would be so emotionally invested in the process so as not to miss the occasional deadline or simply decide not to bother this year. Especially if they've only seen like 6 films all year and barely liked 3.
And forgive my cynicism, but I can't think of any given year in which the Oscar nominations just scream out careful consideration and commitment on the part of Oscar voters. (E.g. The Descendants for Editing, Cate Blanchett for Elizabeth: The Reckoning, 27 nominations for The King's Speech including !! Cinematography, Actress Playing Modest Supportive Wife for any year's Anointed Biopic etc.)
Cher will vote for Viola because Cher's for the underdog. The way Meryl Stans act here I know Viola's the underdog. Harvey has two women in best actress as her competition -- watch the youtube clip of Bates beating Woodward and Huston for the Golden Globe he can't hide his true emotions if he wanted to.
Of course she'll vote for Meryl, she knows who the best actress is. And they love each other so...
/3RT -- that's stanley tucci i'm sure (burlesque) who Meryl also loves. he has to be fun to work with, right?
Tucci's a very attractive man. I know that has nothing to do with his quality as an actor or co-star but since he's apart of the conversation at hand I wanted to share in a topic about Cher.
Kurty ? who is she/he ? Kurt Russel ?
Oh, yes, definitely Kurt Russell. (Isn't it nice to be reminded how *delicious* the cast of Silkwood was -- and is?)
And, I love Cher but, my God, her grammar and punctuation are atrocious. Can't Americans, especially celebs, take the effort at least to try to sound educated? (She doesn't even bother to spell her friends' names correctly.)
What must it feel like to be random Academy member, go to a screening of the Help and sit next to Cher? How does would someone even deal with that kind of star power unexpectedly
@Mareko
Cher's dyslexic.
I bet she votes for Viola. I'm sure she roots for the underdog, especially since she knows Meryl has two Oscars and she'd probably want to help Viola out.
Cher will vote for Meryl. She's one of her best friends. I watched her speech on youtube and she did thank Mary Louise Streep - this is the person she did her first film with.
Then again, Cher didn't praise Viola. She praised the cast of the movie. The cast as a whole. And it matters. To me Octavia or Jessica (I think Jessica) will get her vote in supporting, but she'll vote for Meryl in lead.
She votes for Meryl. I'm sure (to an extent) that the AMPAS voting process is somewhat akin to voting for homecoming or prom queen...you know someone is technically better or more deserving, but you vote for your friends regardless (how the hell else do you explain Glenn Close's Oscar nomination? Sorry to still be beating a dead horse, but still!). I've seen many interviews where Cher basically says that Meryl taught her how to be an actress, so I'm sure she has the utmost respect and gratitude to her (and they are supposedly great friends, judging by Meryl's ecstatic reaction in the audience for Cher's Oscar win).
She probably votes for The Help in best picture and probably one of the supporting ladies.
And I love her McDonald's/Spears tweet. So random but funny!
IMO she voted for Meryl.
And gave her votes to The Help for any other category...
Silkwood isn't Cher's first movie. Heck it isn't her first movie of the decade.
I think Cher voted for Meryl. When all is said and done, Cher is both very loyal and sentimental, and she'd vote for her pal over Viola, though she probably liked her very much too. Indeed, I suspect that if Meryl weren't in the running, her vote would likely have gone to Viola.
On a semi-related note, I remember reading an article on CR (Christina Ricci) a few years ago. CR said that even after all these years, Cher still sends her flowers on her birthday. Given the affection and sentiment demonstrated there, I suspect that Cher would stay true to her friends and vote for him/her over another equally deserving nominee for the Oscars.
Q: Do all that believe Cher votes for Meryl out of loyalty believe she didn't vote for her Jimmy Dean co-star, underdog, and fellow 40-ish, best actress nominee Kathy Bates?
Love to see her showing some love for "Mermaids"--the guy who played Joe is actually neighbors with my cousin in Pennsylvania. He gave up acting and leads a very, very normal life.
I really meant this as a joke but people seem to be taking it very seriously. Though I do believe that people tend to vote for their friends if their friends are in the race, I can't reallybelieve that can be true for Meryl's friends since she's always nominated and that would be asking a lot of them. LOL. they would never be able to vote for anyone else?!!?
I really believe that the online Streep fans are losing their mind at the thought of a black woman beating Streep in a weak field of nominees. I know Viola has the Oscar but it would be a nice surprise to see her take BAFTA. By the way Streep Stans Williams could easly take BAFTA away from both women.
Cher will vote for Meryl, as will Kate Winslet and Sandra Bullock.
laughs
oh I get it...this is a joke^
good one brandz!
