The Nineties.
Good evening America. It has recently come to my attention that I enjoy the nein•a•dees. I came upon this realization on Saturday whilst watching Titanic (1997) starring Billy Zane, The Unsinkable Annie Wilkes... and Suzy Amis. After removing my misty used 3D glasses sponsored by The Lion King, I gazed wistfully at photos of blk dnm's "leather jacket 8" modelled by Juliette Lewis and Chloe Sevigny. In two dimensions.
Later indulging in buttery spaetzle, courtesy of Hallo Berlin and nein-a-dees university mates, we considered trapeze lessons and discussed the puzzling career of Mira Sorvino before spotting Primal Fear's Edward Norton in the 10th row at "The Lady From Dubuque" starring four time Oscar nominee Jane Alexander. She twirled her angelic shawl with all the grace befitting an Albee abstraction. Or Stevie Nicks at a Fleetwood Mac reunion tour.
The Titanic Centennial weekend festivities were sponsored by Three Olives vodka, Junior Mints, and memories of Celine Dion's chest-thumping Oscar ballad. I'll never let go, Jack.

The 90's represent the best era for movies in my lifetime since the 70's. Being an 80's baby people have a hard time understanding that a decade where one of the best movies from it is RoboCop (1987) is difficult to take seriously. I hate the 00's—if there was no Almodovar or Kidman working with idiosyncratic auteur-s I'd have nothing to appreciation from it.
Yeah, the 90's effing rule. I was 4 when they began and a depressed teen when they ended. Europop, oh how I love thee!
I mean, I miss the 90's so much that it has probably come to Chloe Sevigny's attensioun. ;)
"Irish Mommy": Yes! "Irish Mommy" and "Old Couple in Bed" are the saddest parts of that very sad film.
Watching Titanic was made even more depressing by the knowledge that DiCaprio has never been as good since then (and as I'm realizing in recent years, will probably never be that good again).
OT - Nate, come on. you promised to have Best Actress predictions this weekend...
Last Friday at the office, my co-worker asks me what's playing in theaters. I reply "Titanic" and "American Pie", she turns and she's like "what year is this?". Then we turn on the radio and I am not kidding, Corona's "Rhythm of the Night" was on. I had to take a sniff of my CK One to try and recover from the 90s overload.
James T -- It has recently come to my attention that your comments always delight me. Please never stop.
Evan -- totally. those scenes are so potent without overstaying their welcome. Titanic just does not get enough respect (even though it gets plenty of love)
Mark -- I am more than just my Oscar predictions (sniffle).
I was 7 when the 90s ended, and thus didn't really get to experience the decade (though I have fond memories of The Witches with Anjelica Huston, and Faerie Tale Theatre with Shelley Duvall). Very disappointing, as everything I've seen and read suggests that the aughts were dreadful in comparison.
I grew up during the '90s (aged 14 to 24) and I would gladly go back to them. Not only were the films (and music) great, but the world seemed like a happier, more carefree place.
Mike M how old are you now?
