Visual Index ~ Jurassic Park's Best Shots
By now you know the drill. Each week on Hit Me With Your Best Shot we ask interested bloggers to select one shot they think of as best from the pre-assigned movie and tell us why. (Next Wednesday is A Star is Born (1954) which was coincidentally just the focus of a Mad Men scene) This week's movie is Steven Spielberg's '93 blockbuster JURASSIC PARK (just discussed on the podcast) which is currently in rerelease. Great movies back in theaters is the only upside to the 3D craze according to The Film Experience.
So let's helicopter in to that island of intentional amusements and unexpected terror. The 13 blog collective's choices are after the jump
My choice arrived late (but here it is!) because, like John Hammond whose attempts to show his guests the wonders of Jurassic Park went awry, my own day did not go even remotely according to plan. Chaos theory, anyone?

Love these. I really, nearly picked that Gattaca dinosaur myself. Here is my late entry:

Fun reads, as always.
Ugh my schedule's been so hectic this week, I had no chance to watch this again. I'd promised myself not to miss any episode this season :(
I couldn't be kept away from this one; one of my big guilty pleasure movies.
My review and pick for best shot is here:

Great shots. I always enjoy reading these. Looking back at the film, it's almost shocking how many iconic images exist.

Love these articles! It's nice to see how personal this film is to so many people.
Here's mine: http://dancindanonfilm.blogspot.com/2013/04/hit-me-with-your-best-shot-jurassic-park.html
I really enjoyed seeing this on the big screen for the first time, even with the oft-distracting 3D. It does kill me that if it weren't for the third dimension, this probably never would have been re-released. At least, not in such wide distribution. SIGH. The plight of movie lovers!
It's times like this that make me wish I had my own blog/whatever--I love this movie and all these choices are great, but nobody's picked my choice yet. (For those interested, it's the shot of the four main characters watching the raptors get fed--Hammond's still excited and hopeful and trying to get everyone else on board, and you can see the first cracks in the facade of excitement begin to show in the faces of the visiting experts.)
Apparently the site ate my last post. I posted my pic for best shot at my journal, here:

Frank1414 - Make a blog! I specifically created a Tumblr so i could participate in the HMWYBS for Moulin Rouge.
Great choices! I love this movie very dearly so i had fun finding a best shot and reading all these entries. I'm also surprised that no one chose the "Objects are closer than they appear" shot so far. I thought that would've been a really popular one.
I shall now attempt to post for the THIRD time and say that I have a best shot over at my journal, under the title "I think that I'll be coming back again and again."
I could have sworn I posted this last night, but here it is now!

I really enjoyed seeing this on the big screen for the first time this past weekend, despite the oft-unnecessary 3D. It kills me that without that extra dimension, though, this never would have been re-released, at least not with this wide a distribution.
So many of these shots have become so iconic over the past twenty years that it would be extremely difficult for me to choose one as my favorite or best. Great job, all.
Two things:
a) your readers are soooo young!, and 2) I am NOT looking forward to the .gif of the Raptor jumping up into the screen when they're in the overhead rafters. Raptors!!! Shiver!!!
Sigh, I wish I'd rewatched this in time to participate - this is one of my favorite movies of all time. But I REFUSE to watch it in 3D. I'm with denny - why couldn't they have released it in 2D as well? That I would definitely have paid money to see.
re: that shot of the Raptor with the coding projected onto it.
It's only these articles that made me realise that that's what it is. I always thought (until about 10 minutes ago) it was the light coming in through the grate above him. But now seeing a screen shot it's pretty clearly letters.
This series has now made me feel stupid :(
don't worry, The Jack, you're not the only one. i've seen the movie well over a hundred times and i never noticed the letters. yikes!
Also, that should be a "above her" not "above him".
Clearly all these years as a Jurassic Park fan have taught me nothing.
Don't feel bad at all Jack. It took me multiple viewings to catch on to that.
(possibly 3rd viewing): "Cool shadow".
4th viewing: "Are those letters?"
5th viewing: "Those are definitely letters."
6th viewing: "Why are they all G's, T's, and A's? Gattaca?"
7th viewing: "OMG, it's DNA!"
8th viewing: " Well how in the hell is that even reflecting on the raptor..."
Derreck -- your 6th viewing. LOL!
denny & princess -- the 3d didn't do anythign for me. and you'd think with something like this it would. 3D is so pointless. except for getting good movies back in theaters.
