You're Gonna Link Me When I'm Gone
Erik Lundegaard "find the future movie star". This was really fun and hard... I briefly thought I saw James Cagney but that wasn't it... (here's the answer if you can't figure it out)
Los Angeles Times Lincoln Center honored the one and only Barbra Streisand this week. I was not invited though I sought an invitation which I have to admit depressed me. In related news: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BARBRA!

Gawker Ben Affleck to spend only $1.50 a day for five days in honor of movie blogge... oh I'm sorry, as part of the "Live Below the Line" challenge meant to draw attention to Global Poverty.
Speaking of Affleck...
i09 Marvel got the rights to Daredevil back from Fox. Will they use them. And how soon? I really wish they'd consider a TV series for at least one of their characters. Lawyers belong on TV. Surely they got the industry mandate on that?
Slash ...and speaking of Marvel Studios. Lee Pace, whom we love here at TFE, is in final talks to play the villain in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. I don't know that series but this is terrible news since his perfect perfect mug will undoubtedly be buried in some weird unrecognizably villainous makeup. Stop making beautiful people ugly, Hollywood! Ugly actors need jobs too.

Empire Chloe Moretz, uncontent to haunt me in every Hollywood picture is considering working with one of my favorite European auteurs Olivier Assayas for a film called Sils Maria. I have to admit the plot sounds super interesting (especially since the Irma Vep auteur is behind it) with Moretz possibly playing an actress currently playing one of another actresses (Binoche) defining roles.
Cinema Blend Entertainment giant and sort of retired director Mike Nichols returning with One Last Thing Before I Go. Ugh. why didn't he just say yes to August: Osage County then?!?
and look!
Anna Kendrick made a music video. The song will be familiar if you saw Pitch Perfect. There's a funny reaction to this on Videogum.
and Tweet of the Day goes to Dwayne Johnson "the Rock" who sent his fans this pic from his hospital bed after hernia surgery.
Ha! (The Superman t-shirt is perfect since he's already practically a cartoon superhero)

Lee Pace is pretty, isn't he? So pretty! Pretty when making pies, when riding a moose, when wearing leatherpants, pretty in the House of Representatives and pretty when wearing design by Eiko Ishioka. He is my contender for the next 'Beauty Break' segment.
It's interesting to see muscle-y guys get old... they literally start to look like leather.
Hernia is something that The Rock and Paul Newman have in common. Would acting skills be next for the former?
Nate - Off Topic.......
When can we expect the new year charts to be updated? Are you
waiting until after Cannes?
But what is the answer on the future Movie Star? I see Jackie Cooper and Shirley MacLaine, but can't figure it out!
forever -- i'll give you a hint. the star is male and he is in the top two rows.
Paolo: Huh!? With Dwayne Johnson, we're probably not dealing with an Oscar-Winner here, but he has shown he has a naturally charming screen presence, at least.
The Rock is a reliable movie star- and he was very good in "Snitch".
Nat-is he predominantly known for his work in musicals? Because if so I think I spotted him.
John T & Forever -- another hint: he's in the top row. And no, not known for musicals.
Aaaaw... I sort of love The Rock, without ever seeing him in a movie.
Also isn't Chloe Moretz already an actress currently playing one of another actress' defining roles?
Steve McQueen the second child on the left in the top row? But I thought the blonde girl in the second top row was Bette Davis so...
Nat: You've got nothing to worry about in regards to Lee Pace being slathered in uglifying makeup. The Controller (who Pace is set to play) is a completely normal looking human who specializes in mind control and wears a super strength suit to keep up.
Okay-I think I have it now. Did he win an Oscar for an iconic role over an equally iconic role?
Is it Gregory Peck, third from the right in the top row?
That picture of The Rock looks photoshopped, crappily so I might add; are you sure it's not fake?
Nevermind, I just saw the follow up post on his blog... :|
MDA -- well even if its fake, it's direct from The Rock so it counts as real given that he's like the Dolly Parton FakeRealness for Men.
Pretty sure The Rock put it on his own Twitter account.
And even if he goes done making not a single good movie, I am just glad that The Rock is finally back to making movies he should have been making 5-10 years ago. With that said, I really do want Fast & Furious 6 to be a pulpy masterpiece.
"Entertainment giant and sort of retired director Mike Nichols returning with One Last Thing Before I Go. Ugh. why didn't he just say yes to August: Osage County then?!? "
Double UGH and a WORD from me on that. This movie seems so driven by the stars and the star producers with John Wells (a friend of Clooney who has a producer's credit) getting the gig like some odd favor. Though Letts' August: Osage County is his magnum opus, I do feel like this movie should at least feel like a collaboration a la his works with Friedkin. Nichols would have been that.
"Daredevil" could make an interesting TV show, but Marvel will most likely have a show come fall on ABC, "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." See here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/07/shield-tv-show-abc-pilot-title_n_3033030.html
Not gonna lie... I've been trying to learn how to do CUPS. Also not gonna lie... I'm failing at it miserably. Damn you Anna Kendrick!
And speaking of awesome actors who appeared in the Twilight movies... I'm glad Lee Pace is getting work. But if they do make him an ugly (i.e. hide him behind tons of makeup) villain... I will be sad.
Speaking of Babs, it made me think of Robert Redford (plus the awesome interview with Elvis Mitchell AND the Esquire magazine article.) I know this is an actress-y site, but wouldn't it be fun to rank his movies in terms of leading ladies? He's had them all--Babs, Fonda, Pfeiffer, Close, Streep, Sarandon, Moore (Demi, not Julianne). Just watched a clip of Havana (not a great movie) and Lena Olin is truly stunning.
Plus, I did not know that Hedwig and the Angry Inch was a Sundance movie, so somehow Redford gets kudos for that!
Pam -- good point. Actually i've been thinking of trying to focus on ACTORS for a brief period. Maybe an Actors Only Month. haha. but would readers run away in droves?
