"As You Wisssssssh" - Missi's Favorites

Favorite Movie

-by Missi Pyle

I have seen The Princess Bride about 200 times. I remember I saw it in the theater as a Double Feature with my friend Christy Brown in the 8th grade. It was playing with Dirty Dancing randomly. And when both movies were over. My friend Christy was totally floored by Dirty Dancing and I thought she was an idiot. I was like - wait the Princess Bride is the Best Movie ever Made. And she was like - no- Dirty Dancing.

The friendship didn't last.

But I just kept watching that movie over and over. I think it's where I developed most of my sense of humor. I have gotten to meet several people from that movie: Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn. I never know what to say. I just can't even handle it.

I know its a lot of people's favorite movie. I don't care. If there is a heaven that movie will be playing on a loop in the background.

Favorite actors?
There are zillions but a random top 5...

Christoph Waltz -Fuck me. He is so good. I kind of think I should just quit. He blows me away

Robin Williams -Pure magic. Good Morning Vietnam? What? Who can do that? Again. I should just quit. I got to work with him on The Crazy Ones. It was one of the greatest moments of my life.

Judy Davis -Her performances in Barton Fink and Husbands and Wives just slaughtered me.

Ryan Gosling - I did a table read with him once. A table read. That is all. He looked at me across the table and... no he looked INTO me. Yes. he's hot. But that wasn't it. All the sudden there was this moment happening. It was some of the best acting I have ever done. What is it they say about acting? It's all about the other person? Anyway. That was what he did. He made it all about me. And all the sudden it was real.

(sigh)

Madeline Kahn- Genius. I bow down to and sometimes talk to now that she is in the spirit world. I often get into a character and think WWMKD? And that is how I go about the character.

Editor's Note: We hope you're enjoying today's celebrity guest blogger Missi Pyle. She'll be back tomorrow afternoon for two final and truly awesome posts (after a brief interruption for awards business and Critics Choice Award Nominations). Are her favorites also dear to you?

LOVE her! So great in so many things. Loved her in Bringing Down the House and Josie and the Pussycats!

Great shout out to the great Madeline Kahn. Kudos!

Definitely enjoying Missi's visit.

As for her five choices, the guys are all great but it's the women that I truly love. Judy Davis is utterly brilliant in everything and Madeline Kahn was simply a goddess with too many amazing performances to list but Mrs. White and THE Eunice Burns are my favorites.

WWMKD!?! I love that! All these posts are appreciated (special thanks for the Pushing Daisies one - such a great role/performance/episode), but it's lovely to know that Madeline Kahn's genius remains respected and admired.

Damn, her choice of actors are awesome and... who doesn't love The Princess Bride?

WWMKD - an acronym we can all live by.

I know I shouldn't have gone down the road of imagining you at The Princess Bride and Dirty Dancing with the other Christy Brown - i.e., My Left Foot Christy Brown - but it was a delicious image.

(Apologies if I'm double-posting. I think my comment got eaten.)

WWMKD: truly an acronym everyone can live by.

This is terrible, but I couldn't not think about you seeing The Princess Bride and Dirty Dancing with the other Christy Brown, i.e., My Left Foot Christy Brown. I never expected to have that all those ingredients in the same mental image, but it was pretty great. That friendship would have lasted, surely.

Judy Davis and Madeline Kahn = yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!

December 14, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMareko

Madeline Kahn's performance of "I'm Tired" in Blazing Saddles is probably the funniest thing I've ever had the privilege to see and listen to.

You can't go wrong w/ praising Madeline Kahn!!! I hope Missi's not offended if I say I can't imagine how much her loopy sensibility could do with Nancy Grace, or the million other cultural characters we've seen since her untimely death 15(!) years ago.

Marsha -- i can't even think about all the awesomeness we've missed from Madeline. It makes me too sad. But i love that she had enough memorable films and characters that people haven't remotely forgotten her. Silver lining.

Missi -- thanks for singling out Judy Davis. Truly one of the great screen actors and still so weirdly underappreciated / underemployed.

Nick --thinking of *that* Christy Brown watching EITHER of those movies, even without Missi, delights me ;)

it was good having you here, missi!

I am really enjoying "The Missi Experience", I believe you may have psychic powers. Clearly your love of "The Princess Bride", Judy Davis, Madeline Kahn, Ryan Gosling, etc. puts you in sync with most of the readership of this blog.
There is nothing more pleasant than shared good taste. Btw, I do not think watching "Princess Bride" 200 times was too much.
"It's inconceivable" that there is such a thing as too much PB.

I'm not on Twitter, but I think we all need to get WWMKD trending RIGHT. NOW. Genius!

Four out of five is good enough for me! I worship Judy Davis and even went to see My Brilliant Career four times in the theater (yep, I'm old enough...)

Thanks so much for the Madeline Kahn love too. I'm with Denny--WWMKD!

I'm with your ex-friend Christy. I rather rub my sweaty body listening to infectious tunes than watch the sunset next to Cary Elwes.

I miss Madeline too!

Peggy Sue -- FIGHTING WORDS. You don't wanna fight with Missi (see: Bringing Down the House!)

Madeline Kahn?!

Okay, you've won my heart for life. *sigh*

Bonus points for Judy Davis. Always.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMark The First

Hey, someone besides me likes Christoph Waltz! It was getting rather lonely. And we all know Judy Davis and Madeline Kahn elevate everything they are in. Truly, some of those scripts/movies hardly deserved them. Taffeta darling!

I would LOVE to know what scene Missi and Ryan were reading together. Just so I can imagine the fireworks.
