I mean you almost feel for India, right? Almost, but ...uh, no. Hopelessly outmatched. Scarlett is just too entertaining!
[Great Moments in Screen Bitchery #398: Vivian Leigh in Gone With the Wind]

Vivien Leigh makes many many many many many wonderful choices about how to play Scarlett O'Hara, but there is not a single one better than her choice to be visibly pleased with herself literally ALL THE TIME. lol. my bitch<3
That whole scene is just so well constructed and played by all four women. It a shame Alicia Rhett chose not to extend her film career beyond this movie, she could have certainly done well in supporting roles. Still if you're only going to be in one movie....
This performance is just so now. There's nothing dated about it and My God, Scarlett would fit in so well with this current Millennial generation of Me Me Me. Haha
If this were real life, I'm sure we would all behave just like India. But since this is the Big Screen, Vivien Leigh makes it impossible to hate her--her raining-down glamour defies anyone to not admire this Southern princess.
my favorite performance ever in film but i am also partial to Blanche DuBois as well( i know both are Vivien Leigh but thats what happens when you are such a fan of this wondeful actress). I am so lucky to be seeing this in the theatre for its 75th anniversary :)
A rare performance that is so big that, when I think of it, I hardly even think of it as an Oscar winner.
Vivien Leigh really does do it all in that movie. One of the greatest achievements in cinema.
India is one pernicious bitch, and it wouldn't pain me one bit to say it aloud. I love the way Dr. Meade thoroughly tosses her aside when Miss Mellie is dying.
I think Alicia Rhett was discovered in the ginormous Scarlett casting call, is that correct? Clearly she had something and I'm glad they used her. But I can't imagine her being right for Scarlett. Maybe she was only acting as India? Guess we'll never know.
