Great list! I am going to use it as a point of reference to try and see more of their work. A very happy 92nd birthday to Miss Cortese.

it's great that so many on the list are still working. I am seeing Angela Lansbury in Blythe Spirit next week.

Awww, Stanley Donnen singing 'Cheek to Cheek' to his honorary Oscar is one of my favorite Oscar telecast moments.

No #2 on the list?

January 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJason

Or #5 or #6 for that matter...so 3 more people can be added! Yay!

@ tom: So am I, on Wednesday. Can't wait!

January 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

Glen - he was never Oscar nominated but i added him to the "also" list underneath it all.

JASON -- whoops. thanks for the catch. fixed.

Judi and Maggie both turned 80 last month! I feel you should mark their birthdays in some way :D

Not sure if Gordon Sawyer Award winners count, but Don Iwerks is still alive and born in 1929: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0412648/

Also Walter Mirisch is 93 and a winner for In the Heat of the Night (as well as that rare person to win both the Thalberg and the Hersholt): http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0592387/

That's why I love you Nathaniel; while all the other film bloggers are now bickering with each other over whose 'Best" is most deserving of the title, you have given your readers a flawlessly researched list a true movie lover can cherish.

I had to double check the Oscar status of Paul Dooley, I was absolutely sure that he was nominated for "Breaking Away", but alas he was not. It's one of my all time favorite 'dad' performances

I love reading this list! I actually lol'ed at Robert Duvall described as The Judge. He definitely deserve better movies to star in.

January 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDrew

Awesome list Nathaniel. That's what we should all be celebrating.

But just think, 100 years from now, a blogger posts the list of the oldest Oscar winners and Jennifer Aniston is on that list and , say, Michelle Pfeiffer isn't, what would you say?

January 1, 2015 | Unregistered Commenteradelutza

adelutza -- thankfully I WILL BE DEAD AND WON'T HAVE TO STILL THINK ABOUT THAT HORROR

John T -- good catch

George Kennedy and Estelle Parsons were the two that made me go, "Wait, they're still alive?"
One I'd add to the Never Nominated but old enough list: Joan Leslie who played the wife in Sergeant York and Yankee Doodle Dandy.

(I had to look up Kennedy because I could have sworn he died in the last decade and he's still working and was just in The Gambler!)

Might I suggest to add Marcel Ophüls, son of Max and Oscar-winning director for Best Documentary Feature (for "Hotel Terminus") in 1988, Terry Moore, Best Supporting Actress nominee of 1952 ("Come Back, Littel Sheba"), and Robert Loggia, Best Supporting Actor nominee of 1985 ("Jagged Edge")?

January 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMrW

MrW -- good catch.

Justin -- Estelle still does Broadway fairly regularly and she did the touring company of AUGUST OSAGE COUNTy in the meryl role!

Watched Duvall in "The Judge" last night (My movie karma cup doth over run.......that is one bad movie to sit through.) He was certainly MVP convincingly playing a decade younger than himself and somehow managed to make the character even despite a script that was anything but. It won't be an embarrassing nomination (if it happens). Somehow he does what he was hired for and rises above the material which couldn't have been easy as the material was so terrible. How could so many talented people create such a mess?

January 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterHenry

Stanley Donen:
Two for the Road Funny Face 2 of my most favorite movies ever!

January 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDO

Donna Douglas (b. 1933) just died. I realize there is no Oscar history here, but Elly Mae was probably the first crush for a generation of boys (and girls) and also starred in the best Twilight Zone episode ever. If you stretch it, she was in Bells are Ringing which had one nom.

January 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterHenry

Is there a current top 10 youngest winners list somewhere? I assume JLaw is the currently the youngest winner in any category.

January 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCC

Tatum O'Neal is the youngest outside special Oscars isn't she? And is Shirley Temple still the youngest of all?

January 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterHenry

George Kennedy "was the oldest male acting winner until Christopher Plummer won"? Did you put this in on purpose to see if anyone notices, or did I miss something?
The real answer to this would be George Burns, right?

Also, @Henry, I guess CC probably just worded his question in a way that could easily be misunderstood. Probably meant how young they are today, not when they won.

January 5, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDominik

Henry & CC REGARDING THE YOUNGEST EVER WINNERS (competitively) that'd be

01. TATUM O'NEAL (10 years) Supporting Actress
02. ANNA PAQUIN (11 years) Supporting Actress
03. PATTY DUKE (16 years) Supporting Actress
04. TIMOTHY HUTTON (20 years) Supporting Actor
05. MARLEE MATLIN (21 years) Lead Actress
06. JENNIFER LAWRENCE (22 years) Lead Actress
07. JANET GAYNOR (22 years) Lead Actress
08. ANNE BAXTER (23 years) Supporting Actress
09. JOAN FONTAINE (24 years) Lead Actress
10. TERESA WRIGHT (24 years) Supporting Actress
