20 years ago I would have been thrilled about a Streisand version of Gypsy but she is just too old for it now. I mean come on she's over 70 and at the beginning of the film she's supposed to be the mother of children under the age of 10!! There's not enough soft focus in the world to make that believable. I can't imagine Gaga in it but if they are going to try and pull off that first trick I guess anything's possible.
Hey, if it means Asian-American performers get some work in a major studio context? I'll take a live-action Mulan.
Yeah, that live-action Mulan is old news, I just think it had been put on the back burner for a while. I remember hearing about it and Ziyi Zhang being attached, and hoping she could get some awards traction for it, but it's just apart of the new Hollywood trend of animated to live-action blockbusters so I'm not expecting any serious attention. It's still the most interested I've been in an animated to live-action Disney film.
Too young for Dolly, too old for Momma Rose...
The wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast does get to be the main voice in the song "Human Again", which can be a pretty nice and big number. Not exactly a solo but she does get to belch out some high notes so there's that!
Maybe now that they have her we can hope they give her a new song as well?
I can't wait to read discussion here on the new bully drama A GIRL LIKE HER. I thought the lead actress/bully Hunter King was ASTONISHING! I can't picture it happening, but she's on my personal ballot for Lead Actress next year.
Per Always, I LOVE this site, Nathaniel!
The idea of Jon Hamm doing the infamous showe scene... Swoon.
Ryan - good to hear from you! I haven't heard of that movie so i'll keep an eye out.
Peggy Sue - !!!
Steve -- oh, i don't know that song so that's good to hear.
I think The Wiz is actually a good choice to do live. The movie wasn't really all that great despite all the big bucks thrown it's way (though I'll always have a, er, soft spot for the musical number where they stripped off all their clothes).
I also think it could have some inspired casting. I think a young unknown for Dorothy would be great, but they'll probably go with a current music star.
Beyonce as as Dorothy? Hey, it worked for Miss Ross...
Biggs -- that seems probable.
Dave -- yeah, they'd never go with an unknown for one of these things.
Loved Bambi. Loved. loved, loved it.
