Mucho Miscellania, Ya Dig?

MNPP reminds us that today is the 15th anniversary of American Psycho, Mary Harron's masterpiece. True story: I used to get her confused with Mary Lambert as if the same person made Madonna's "Like a Virgin" Hee!
WOW was Dennis Quaid losing his shit on a film set real or staged?
MTV Which Avenger deserves a solo film most? The answer is obvious and Joss Whedon knows it. Weird that Marvel doesn't
i09 the real reason we didn't get a third solo Hulk film has been unveiled
Comics Alliance the Avengers playing Family Feud on Jimmy Kimmel.
Awards Daily Director Michelle McLaren has left the Wonder Woman picture
Variety revisits the Sony Hack (remember that? seems so long ago) and the minefield of legal questions its opened up

I'm sorry there's so much superhero bizness lately but that's all the news feed is ever offering up of late

Biggest Tease
Josh Gad says he can't wait for you to "Be Our Guest"... yep, it's the cast of Beauty & The Beast (2016). Or some of them at least.

Can't wait for you to be our guest.

Is that Luke Evan with the suddenly pointy twink hair? If so he looks so different with shorter hair. No Audra McDonald (Wardrobe) or Emma Thompson (Mrs Potts) in this photo though. Grrrrr

Love this. Well done Stephen Byrne

On The Political/Theatrical Stage
BuzzFeed points out the delightful Hillary Clinton 404 page
MNPP as if those of us with tickets to this summer's Little Shop of Horrors event weren't excited enough. Jake Gyllenhaal is announced as Seymour!
Dissolve Magic Mike franchise may be heading to the stage next
New Hedwig <-- this is my favorite reaction to the first image of Darren Criss as Hedwig.

Small Screen
Must Love Movies the story of Daredevil's opening credit sequence.
The Playlist Cary Fukunaga doing The Alienist as TV miniseries. That book freaked my shit out back when it was a best seller but I am sad that we've lost Fukunaga (Sin Nombre, Jane Eyre) to the overworked land of the serial killer procedurals. Did he really need to do another after True Detective? David Fincher isn't likely to be dethroned as king of the genre so let's have some other genres for our talented rising auteurs!
Pajiba shares the VERY welcome news that Katee Sackhoff is taking her career into her own hands by creating her own series since Hollywood is far too stupid to notice her gargantuan charisma. It's called Rain and its sci-fi.

Madonna Screen (aka Nathaniel's Brain)
The Daily Beast surveys the rampant bald ageism and sexism that's greeting Madonna's every move this past week or two. It's all become very Freudian with the world's collective fear of 'all consuming female sexuality.'
Watch What Happens Live Andy Cohen invites Sandra Bernhard to watch the latest Madonna video "Ghosttown" (previously discussed) and it is a joy... especially when she sees Terrence Howard cooking beans and hunting Madonna with a rifle.

He's going to barbecue the bitch!

...Get me a rib. Get me a meaty rib"

LOL. Also on my 130th view I was looking around Madonna's beautifully lit apartment (with dirty mattress) and realized that we'll still have electricity after the apocalypse! Whew, that's a relief

Exit Video
This made me laugh so hard that I now feel bad about myself. Apologies world, I am terrible. (P.S. I'm really hoping Trixie Mattel is the queen that RuPaul brings back that shashayed away too early on this season of RuPaul's Drag Race)

Bummer, no Ian McKellen in the Beauty and the Beast pic either!

I have been checking in every day hoping that today is the day you'll post your Supporting Actress predictions.

It's a very odd feeling to be angry and excited at the same time but that's basically me in regards to this whole Beauty and the Beast live action thing. UGH, if the casting wasn't so perfect, this would be so much easier to hate.

I'd also be SHOCKED if it wasn't Trixie. Too much foreshadowing to not be her.

that trixie clip just makes me more disappointed w're enduring such a lackluster season without her (but kudos to pearl, who made me laugh in snatch game even though i had no idea who she was doing)

Trixie is just delightful. She's my queen and I'm in love. #justiceforTrixie

Taxi Driver is such a great film.

The ageism and sexism against Madonna, although expected, has reached an all time high. Or at least it feels that way because of social media. In any event, it seems like both idiot social media users and the press wants to join in on the bashing. I applaud Madonna for defending herself and acknowledging it for what it is. Others wish she would just ignore it, but that's not Madonna's style. Recently, Rita Ora has come to Madonna's defense. I hope all the other women in music will unite and take a stance against it. Or are they too threatened by Madonna as well? She doesn't "need" the support, but it would get the message across and hopefully call out the abuse.

No Gugu in the pic :-(

Taxi Driver post is up! So excited to see everyone else's contributions.

Michelle McLaren leaving Wonder Woman: The reports are that she left over time period conflict (my guess: McLaren wanted it set in the 1940s and WB wanted it set NOW, because that would just be so expected of them) and not getting to put a talking animal character in it (insert Rocket Raccoon joke here).

Let's go film by film and see what their confidence level should be:

1: Man of Steel (55% Rotten Tomatoes score, with most of the people who liked it just mildly liking it and most of the people who didn't like it HATING it. For any sequel, that means you've lost HALF THE AUDIENCE. Reasonable direct sequel result: $334 million. Confidence level: Low.)
2: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ah, so it's a mess that's trying to introduce basically every superhero of the Justice League at once and sets aesthetic expectations on every future director to conform to Zack Snyder's aesthetic. Yeah, even with the Batman card, this is probably going to pull only $400-450 million unless it's REALLY GOOD. Confidence level: Bottom.)
3: Suicide Squad (Guardians worked because it was Marvel showing their dominance in the field and confidence in the out there pieces of their material. YOU haven't even gotten a good version of Batman working with any of his kid sidekicks of the mainline (Dick, Barbara, Jason, Tim, Steph, Cass, Damian) on the screen. Confidence level: If this flops, it should be over.)
4: Wonder Woman. (After something as disastrous as Man of Steel, I would have advised throwing out any aesthetic or narrative continuity with that THING and gone ahead with a near impossible to screw up female hero as our first stab. And I'd tell them: Go for Batgirl. It's an easy story with access to some GREAT villains. Sorry, but I half agree with the "Wonder Woman's too tricky" statements. What I mean is: I want her done and I don't think she's impossible (in spite of the time period conflict, sexual connotations and ESPECIALLY the bad villains), but I'm forced to concede she probably SHOULDN'T be the first superheroine out of the gate. We don't have an example of a superheroine movie being done well (that the closest we have is TANK GIRL is telling) and committing to one so genuinely difficult is inadvisable, ESPECIALLY if you're read as the company that doesn't get it. Confidence level: Why is this one happening now?)
5: Justice League Part One (Bwahahaha! Wow. I needed that. Yeah, nothing after Wonder Woman is happening.)

I think Marvel's Captain Marvel has more potential than Wonder Women. Marvel should be doing a Black Widow movie though.

Trixie is such a basic 21 y/o gay man. When he's lived longer his comedy (I hope) will mature, but all of this kind of reeks of desperation, appropriation, and try-hard edginess that isn't there. Oh suburban kids smh.

April 15, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterRahul

I liked Trixie, but wasn't that taken (Max is my favorite so far although Ginger is climbing), but that Anne Frank bit is hysterical. Especially the ipod.
