For my money, Steve McQueen's best film: incredible performances, terrific camerawork, great script (including terrific uses of silence), and most importantly, an uncensored look at addiction. I still think about this movie more often than I should, even though it's been years since I've seen it. And that final scene...holy shit.

One of those movies I will forever shame the Academy for not recognizing. I wasn't necessarily shocked that it missed out, just disappointed in their lack of risk-taking (because, you know, SEX).

Nicole Beharie. Nicole Beharie. Nicole Beharie.

(Oh, and Lucy 'Woman on Subway Train' Walters.)

Wasn't wowed by the film like a lot of people but boy oh boy were these two fantastic.

Egregiously snubbed.

Ah, classic British shout-acting followed by hard-to-hear-whisper acting that confuses everyone into thinking it's a "good" performance. I'm always surprised when gay men in particular love Shame - everything about it felt so pedestrian? People were more hypnotized by a flaccid uncut cock being shown on screen than they were at the banal "anti-sex points" this movie was making (and 1970s style homophobia - oh noes he got his dick sucked by a gay man, this really must be his rock bottom!).

I RELISH the day when people realize the domestically violent Fassbender is a hack. He sucked in 12 Years a Slave too!

I echo Mareko's sentiment: Nicole. Beharie. Other than that, eh.

Loved Nicole in this as well. Wish she had more scenes.

That GAY comment is treating us as if we live that life and are 1 and the same,i would have enjoyed mulligan with or without MF penis,we see penis's all the time on the internet now so why would that get us to love the film.

"Egregiously snubbed"

Reminds me of Julie Andrews' statement when she declined her Tony nomination for Victor Victoria.

I've seen Shame recently. Very intense.
Some films are just not Oscar movies....
Carey Mulligan was great as Sissy. Loved the singing scene.
And Fassbender is beyond any try of description....
(but I must be 100% lesbian, because I just didn't care for his... "golf club" *lol*)
