Is this your answer to the whole Cate Blanchett playing Lucille Ball craziness?
I've tried on desktop and mobile, yet I still can't see the picture. :-/
Peggy Sue...right? Every time I think about "Blanchett does Ball," I get a brain freeze!
I can not access this picture at all, Nat.
And if it is about that news saying Blanchett is playing Ball next, then fuck yes, I AM IN!
Debra Messing is silently weeping somewhere today.
I've always thought Frances Fisher aced this role (in the '91 TV movie "Lucy & Desi: Before the Laughter". As far as brilliant recreations of famous celebrities go, I'd rank her work here right up there with Tammy Blanchard's as the young Judy Garland (Me and My Shadows,2001,TV) and Isabel Keating's as the mature Garland (The Boy from Oz, stage 2003). All magnificent. I think there are bits of all three performances on YouTube.
weird the picture is showing up for me. it has ZERO to do with Lucille Ball. the comments lead me to believe there was a news story that happened while i was sleeping at night.
Ryan -- Oh God! Yes!
You can't stop what's coming.
Well, that's not the image I expected in light of the connections others made to the news of Blanchett's playing Ball.
Will Antonio Banderas play Desi?
I can see Cate playing Ball.. in real life Ball was a very serious and not so nice person... the comedy element I have trouble seeing with Blanchett
Well I for one am seeing a stunning photo of Gary Cooper in Wings. Always a welcome pair of eyes.
LOL, Ryan.
Ken, since you don't mention Judy (Davis) as Judy (Garland), does that mean you were less than impressed? I think her work is as good as/better than Blanchard's, and her lip syncing is scary good. Angela Bassett as Tina Turner was on that same level.
Paul, as far as I'm concerned Judy Davis is one of the greatest actresses there is. And she was excellent - better than excellent, even - as Garland. But, for me, Tammy Blanchard came magically, eerily, triumphantly closer to capturing the Garland essence than I would have ever thought anyone could. I don't know if the Anne Hathaway'/Judy Garland project is still on. And Hathaway's a seriously talented artist. But I can't believe she'd ever come near Blanchard
in capturing Judy's lightning-in-a-bottle magic. I think Hathaway would do much better playing Liza.
Ken, Hathaway as Liza has always made more sense to me on a number of levels.
Troy -- i know. this is seriously one of the weirdest nonsequitor threads of all time.
