Newish: A Walk with the Teenage Martian Outta Compton
It's time for the irregular 'newish for home viewing' list. If you've been trying to catch up on 2015 hits & misses (no judgments -- we're all for movie consumption of multiple kinds and whenever people can get to them) it's worth noting that a lot of things hit DVD, Blu-Ray, and Streaming over the past three weeks. Here are some highlights. (Links go to related articles here).
Newish to DVD / BluRay
• Diary of a Teenage Girl -it's up for 3 Spirit Awards
• Everest - all star mountain climbing
• Infinitely Polar Bear - for those curious why Mark Ruffalo was Globe-nominated (hint: mental illness)
• The Martian -Best Picture Nominee
• Mr. Robot Season 1 - Which we like here at TFE
• Nasty Baby - because you should be interested in the filmmaker Sebastian Silva if you aren't already
• Sicario - play it real loud cuz the sound is amazeballs
• Sinister 2 - We interviewed leading man James Ransone
• Sleeping with Other People - because you should be interested in the filmmaker Leslye Headland if you aren't
already. She's practically the only filmmaker trying to imbue new messy life into the romantic comedy genre.
• The Standord Prison Experiment - for a who's who of young rising male actors
• Straight Outta Compton -did it or did it not deserved more Oscar noms?
• The Visit - See everything on Jason's "Scariest Movie Moments of 2015" list
• The Walk - only for those without vertigo
• A Walk in the Woods - How did this little-discussed Robert Redford / Nick Nolte picture literally become the most successful Sundance pickup since Precious (2009)?
Newish to Streaming
• Chi-Raq (Amazon Rental)
• Goodnight Mommy (Amazon Prime) Foreign Oscar submission
• The Last Five Years (Netflix Instant)
• Mad Max: Fury Road (HBO Now)
• Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (Amazon Rental)
▶︎ Phoenix (Netflix Instant) MUST-SEE PICK. But if you can wait you should since it's coming out on Criterion [preorder for April].
• Straight Outta Compton (iTunes Rental)
• Stonewall (iTunes Rental) for you masochists
• Tom at the Farm (Amazon Prime) for Xavier Dolan fans
Which are you planning to catch up with ... or see again?

I hope everybody checks out Diary of a Teenage Girl. All three actors on the cover there are perfect in it.
I hate that I missed Diary of a Teenaged Girl in theaters, but really looking forward to seeing it at last!
I just watched Nasty Baby and still trying to figure out what I saw. Most sparsely rendered but memorable in a crazy way.
Bel Powley in "Diary of a Teenage Girl" and "A Royal Night Out" is well worth checking out.
Those Bette Davis eyes...
Finally got around to The Martian now that it's streamable. And...ugh. What a dud. That screenplay nomination is a head-scratcher. Damon's glib wisecracks grew thin quickly. And was any character in that movie more than a device for sciencing the shit out of things??
Phoenix!!! Nina Hoss is such a revelation!!. If this was released in English as a Hollywood or British film, she wld have been a shoo-in for Best Actress
