Patricia Clarkson and Kristin Scott Thomas will be in a movie together
Murtada here. Iconoclastic British filmmaker Sally Potter (Orlando, The Man Who Cried, Ginger & Rosa) started shooting her new movie The Party, this week. The film, which unfolds in real time, revolves around a drinks party held by a London couple to celebrate the wife’s promotion to minister in the Shadow Cabinet. It is described by its producers like so:
a comedy wrapped around a tragedy. It starts as a celebration and ends with blood on the floor.”
Intriguing.
The cast includes Emily Mortimer, Cillian Murphy, Timothy Spall, Bruno Ganz, Cherry Jones and two TFE favorites Kristin Scott Thomas and Patricia Clarkson. One of whom might be playing the lead role of the celebrated minister. Since the movie is set in London we are guessing Scott Thomas. Not that we don't think Clarkson can rock an English accent...
This is happy news because it means Scott Thomas is not retiring. Two years ago, in an interview with The Guardian, she implied that she might never make another film. We are glad that’s not true.
And her co-star Clarkson is making her own waves in the press this week. Also in an interview with the Guardian, she created a stir by telling off Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington, who was complaining about a sexist double standard in the industry:
He’s a sex symbol. Get over it. You have an amazing career and you’re on a hot show. Take your shirt off.
However our favorite quote from the same interview is when Clarkson addressed the all-female Ghostbusters controversy:
There are still so many movies made starring 50 men and one woman! A white male actor should never be allowed to complain about anything. Shut up and sit in the corner.
These two fabulous ladies certainly know how to stir things up. Potter, you’ve got a goldmine in them, make some magic. Which current male star would you like to see “shut up and sit in a corner”?

Kristin Scott Thomas never implied she'd never make another movie. She wanted to bow out of making movies for the time being due to a lack of roles for women her age. I always assumed European actresses had it better because movies were made about middle age and older women. And these movies gave them things to do and sexuality to still possess. But maybe foreign filmmakers and distributors are slowing down on producing those kind of movies these days.
I have a dream: KST playing an icy Isabelle Huppert-like part in a Michael Haneke movie.
Cal-we all have that dream. Even if we don't realize it.
Leo DiCaprio? Seriously, dude? You got an Oscar for NOT EVEN ACTING. Go away for a while, please. Don't talk to anyone, don't film anything and come back in 2020-2021 and we're solid.
Two my favorite actresses... can't wait!! The rest of the cast isn't too shabby, either!
Which current male star would you like to see “shut up and sit in a corner”?
Do it have to be an actor?
Tarantino, Matt Damon, Tom Cruise, Tyler Perry, Woody Allen...(that's a grouping you're unlikely to read again)
Wicked movie confirmed for 2019
Are they playing sisters? They should definitely be playing sisters.
@ Paul Outlaw
My list exactly with the inclusion of Bradley Cooper.
Bryan Cranston needs to shut up for a bit. Also David O Russell.
Paul's list is pretty good though.
Russell Crowe is a bastard who should shut up.
somebody else is.too...
Love this news, KST & Patricia Clarkson, 2 dry wits for the price of one ticket; and Sally Potter films are usually pretty interesting.
Sit in a corner: Leo & smug Ben Affleck - I need a break from them.
Also directors David O'Russell and Alejandro Iñárritu -over appreciated, over-rewarded, and over-paid. Please take them away for awhile.
Wow. What an amazing pairing. I really like both of them, and I miss seeing both in films.
KST would make an excellent Elizabeth in Mary Stuart. How that play is not a movie is baffling.
I love Patty so much. <3 With that director and cast, this will definitely be on my must-see list next year.
Add all of LadyEdith's names to my list.
