Tweetweek: Citizen Kane, Odd Marquees, New Arrivals

I have to begin this week's tweet roundup with this amazing find from Scott Feinberg - a press clipping about Citizen Kane on Oscar night and the room reaction to every mention of the film.

Crazy, right? The politics of the moment are always so hard to properly contextualize after the fact when it comes to art that endures.

More entertainment tweets ahead but first a joyous announcement from our friend and podcast mate Katey Rich...

It's funny because it's true.

BEAUTY TO GO -- someone shine that star up, please

That's a sweet picture of Katey, and since 'charlie' is short for Charlene - is it possible Charlize Theron was an influence in some way?

And Nick Davis sending you that picture of Julianne Moore's star just shows what a thoughtful friend he is.
I like to think he stopped and paid some attention to Michelle Pfeiffer's as well

Lea Michele's voice is truly great imo, very powerful and I do miss those covers some days lol
Where is Shelley Duvall now?! She is so dictinctively unique.

Kathy Bates is getting a walk of fame star and they're doing it for her TV work? Strange when she dies all everyone will talk about is her filmography!

I'm sure it helped HGWMV that it was something bucolic and British---after a couple of very rough years for Britain in WWII (with France Vichy by then). Pearl Harbor and the US's entry into the war was very fresh during the 1942 ceremony--while Citizen Kane was in part about thinking critically about a newspaperman who drove up narrow-minded support for a bogus war. So in that context, the geers are not entirely surprising.

Congratulations Katey :) Charlie looks adorable! I am only marginally upset that you didn't call him Harge.

I wish I could whole-heartedly agree with Nick's and Matt's tweets but the problem is the films are showing us the human condition which is never one thing. So if you are a director who only excels at one thing your art will be flat and therefore unsuccessful at what it's trying to do.
