Red Carpet: Creative Arts Emmys
Jose here. First things first: congrats to RuPaul on his first Emmy! The iconic entertainer won on his first nomination as Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program for RuPaul's Drag Race. It only took him 8 seasons, but that's another story, Emmy as we all know is a notoriously slow learner who only starts liking things once they've stopped being cool, or once the uncool things they love have ended and they have no other choice but to reward cool things, which is why over the weekend Amy Poehler and Steve Buscemi also became Emmy winners <3
Keeping up with their tradition of loving the same things, the Creative Arts Emmys (which this year were awarded over two nights after hitting a record 82 categories!) also perpetuated the same red carpet trends, as the stars showed up in gowns that were either beaded or Grammy-esque, or both. Unlike the Oscars which continue being the epitome of glamour, or the Golden Globes which are its more playful cousin, the Emmys are usually about restraint and stars often show up in the same designers they did the previous year. This becomes even duller in the Creative Arts ceremony which isn't televised, which is my way of saying that coming up with looks worthy of discussion was quite the feat...
See the notable looks after the jump.
Heidi Klum is never one for subtlety, but in recent years she has toned down her over the top looks for much more glamorous options, such as this liquid metallic Roland Mouret gown which she paired with minimal jewelry and a simple parted hair. It's pure classic Hollywood and one of Klum's best looks! Lake Bell's complex Naeem Khan led some to speculate that she'd had a "wardrobe malfunction", which really meant that the elaborate fringe of her dress moved along with her and revealed the sheer lining on several occasions. Rather prudish of fashion journalists if I may say so, who failed to see the designer's intention to honor Cleopatra and Josephine Baker in a single work of sartorial wonder. Grease star Vanessa Hudgens stole my breath in a sexy Maria Lucia Hohan halter dress.
Hudgen's co-star Julianne Hough, left much to be desired by showing up in a Zuhair Murad Beyoncé wore to the Grammys two years ago. Her red lipstick is perfect though. While men rarely get to have fun on the red carpet, RuPaul showed them all how it's done.Emmy Queen Allison Janney showed off her impressive guns in a simple dress by Bert Keeter. The Emmys are always a great showcase for up and coming designers who have graduated from reality shows or from being costume designers in TV shows, Keeter himself came from Project Runway. Finally we have the delightful Carrie Preston in a Rani Zakhem dress that's a little bit too much of everything, too much lace, too much sheer...but she makes almost any design a winner with her killer smile.
Which of these looks is your favorite? Who are you looking forward to see on the Primetime show next Sunday?

Lake Bell's dress is divine. The end.
P.S. Condragulations, Ru!
Very happy for Peter Scolari.
Ru definitely didn't F*** it up.
OMG so happy for Mama Ru!!!!!! Look at that, first time being noiminated and won... I bet the show itself would win too had they nominated it!
ARCHER ARCHER ARCHER ARCHER ARCHER ARCHER ARCHER ARCHER
Aren't you glad that RuPaul won because he TOTALLY DESERVED IT and not because the Emmys were trying to hand out some patronizing tokenistic suck up award to either blacks or gays? Now when they finally get around to nominating the show itself ...
Amy Poehler! Ru Paul!! Peter Scolari!!! "SnoozeFest of Trones" can win all the other emmys next Sunday, I couldn't care less!!!!...
And great to see Archer get some action. Phrasing!
José, every one of your posts is a gift.
Kudos to Allison Janney for trying out a new designer from "Project Runway". I'm always surprised we don't see more of the graduates on the Red Carpet.
Emmys for Amy, Ru, and Steve could not be given to better people. Please continue that with Sarah Paulson for "ACS" on Sunday!
Mareko: AMEN. Did you see how it moved? <3
Margaret: blush. I'll dedicate all of them to you.
forever1267: they mostly show up at the Creative Arts Emmys strangely enough, I don't know what prevents stylists from using new people. I loved that Mindy Kaling wore her show's Costume Designer's work last year and she was one of the best dressed of the whole year.
forever1267-- Amen!
