Seth Meyers as Golden Globes Host

Chris here. Looks like the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is nailing down a host for the 75th Golden Globes ceremony and they are very much sticking within the late night host mold: Seth Meyers is closing in on the gig.

The move isn't a surprising one, but Meyers is perhaps a more palatable hosting options than last year's Jimmy Fallon or the Oscar's returning host Jimmy Kimmel. If nothing else this will bring Amy Poehler back to the Globes stage for their recurring "Really?" schtick, but even that notion underlines that these hosting gigs need some new blood. Shouldn't there be some prerequisite other than talk show hosting that makes a qualified host? Globes embrace television and films, but when will the film side be reflected in the host? Do the Globes even need a host?

The 75th Golden Globe Award nominations be announced on December 11 and will be awarded on January 7.

I like Seth just fine but would love to see a stand up comic get a crack at it. Why not a Sarah Silverman or a Wanda Sykes ?

I know I'm most likely in the minority with respect to this, but I don't think most of these shows need hosts. Then again, I'm always more interested in the award announcements and performances (where applicable) than whatever the MCs bring to the table, as, from my perspective, they just draw out what already tends to be a long evening.

Yeah he seems likable enough but also a bit of a boring choice. Good for him though.

I don't think he has the style to be a host in that kind of show- it seems like a safe choice

Just one year I'd like to see no straight white men hosting any awards shows. Heck, I'd even be fine getting rid of the word "straight" in my first sentence.

Boring. Since this is airs on NBC and they are going to keeep it "in house" they could at least get Leslie Jones as co-host at least.

He dragged 45 at 44's correspondent's dinner. He's the perfect host for this year's Globes. Also, everyone wants a punch up not down comedian, Meyers is your man.

Talk show hosts are a safe bet, they may not be groundbreaking but they won't be terrible either. Outside the box choices are what led to Seth McFarlane and the Franco/Hathaway debacle.

At least it's not his untalented brother Josh. Anyone remember him?

He is MUCH more edgy and acerbic than Jimmy Fallon, and is therefore a stronger choice. Sorry, but Fallon was an absolutely dreadful host. I don't remember anything besides the opening number, and even that fell flat. Talk about vanilla. I think Meyers will do an admirable job, but I agree that an actual stand-up comedian would be better. I love the Wanda Sykes and Sarah Silverman suggestions, but what they really need to do is bring back Amy and Tina.

About as safe as it gets.

@thevoid99 - I disagree: Josh Meyers was funnier on Mad TV than Seth ever was on SNL.
