We're just under a year away from the debut of the superhero TV series Cloak & Dagger but they've released a trailer anyway. Seems kinda early!

We've already covered The Beguiled teaser but here's the full trailer (which is very similar in structure but with extra footage). Having seen the 1971 film I wasn't worried about spoilers but you absolutely shouldn't watch this if you haven't seen the original film. For my taste it's a little too revealing.

Ramin Bahrani is a very interesting choice to direct what sounds like a dystopian movie; fingers crossed that it'll actually be good.

Will Smith as The Genie? I know no-one is going to replace Robin Williams, but this is a TERRIBLE choice. Yes, the advantage of casting Disney's Genie is that, unlike everyone else, he doesn't have to be any specific ethnicity, he's BLUE for goodness sake. But this is almost as bad as casting Brad Pitt for this role. Yes, Smith and Pitt are charming, but in a conventional leading man way, not in the OTT odd-ball way. And, hold on, wasn't Disney's Aladdin supposed to be a conventionally charming leading man type? Michael Pena? Charlie Day? Terry Crews? THOSE should be some of the people on the short list for a new Genie (again, no one's likely to be AS good as Robin Williams, but that kind of casting would indicate they're at least trying to hit on something similar), and guys like Will Smith should be as far from this role as possible.

Julia is pretty but we know the most beautiful is because she has a movie to promote and she gave People 5 minutes of her time for an interview. The more I see of Beguiled the less interested it looks. I have also heard that the Amy Schumer Goldie Hawn movie is terrible.

Really. Must. Get. Over. Western. Dislike. & Watch. Original. Beguiled.

Julia again? It's like florals for spring. "How original" /The Devil Wears Prada

Julia Roberts is ugly on the inside and out.

April 19, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterEsther

I guess I am in the minority, but I think Julia Roberts looks very horse-like!! My regrets to horses.
Also, if you notice certain not terribly popular actors and actresses are covered in People ie
Kate Hudson every week.

The original Beguiled was shocking in its time. In today's world , I am not sure it will be.

"Anika Noni Rose set to play a who..."

cindy lou or betty lou?

April 20, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterpar

Passengers was definitely punished for not bowing to the whims of crazy social justice warriors, and I'm somebody who hates it when people use the term "social justice warrior."

The movie did a good job in acknowledging the weirdness of their romance.

April 20, 2017 | Unregistered Commentertonytr

I also thought you had said "Anika Noni Rose is set to play a Who...", and before I read ahead I thought "that makes total sense!"

I watched THE BEGUILED (1971) a few days ago and that new trailer gives away TOO much.

April 20, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterSteve G

I'm sick and tired of people comparing Julia and Sarah Jessica to horses. I never hear or read those comments made with male stars.

She's got the talent to make me change my opinion, but Nicole is totally wrong for that part.

Julia Roberts looks like a fuckin' foot. People Magazine gotta go.

April 20, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJeremy

Atttacking the way Julia Roberts looks with such derogatory language ? Seriously grow up!

April 20, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterRami

The celebrity press, much like Hollywood itself, clearly is void of imagination when Julia Roberts is ranked number one on People's most beautiful list for the fifth time.

That Anika Noni Rose project sounds fascinating, but I still have a hard time buying her as the mother of a young adult despite the fact that she's well into her forties, which is also my minor quibble with her BET series The Quad. She looks just as youthful as the actors playing students on the show.

A big "hell no" to Will Smith as the Genie and an "up yours" to anyone who thinks that may be a good idea. These live-action remakes are making money regardless of their casts, so there's no need to go chasing the first big name some idiot offers.

April 20, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterTroy H.

Troy H: I absolutely agree it shouldn't be Will Smith. There's three I already suggested, but since it's probably going to be just a voice, how about an actual voice actor? R.S. Horvitz would be a unique take (The Genie as less Robin Williams and more "Shut your noise tube, taco human"? I would be SO DOWN for that.)

April 20, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

Should there be a live action remake of Aladdin? No. Are there any Disney classics that should be at the centre of a live action remake? Not really, though I'd be fascinated with a live action 'Fantasia'. If there has to be a live action Aladdin, you could do worse than Will Smith. But who am I kidding, I'm not watching it. But if they cast someone like Hugh Jackman, I could imagine myself seeing it.

Honestly, the complaints about People Magazine's most Beautiful person are rather silly.

April 20, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterArkaan

Arkaan: You could do worse than Will Smith? Yeah, but not by much. (Liam Neeson as The Genie, anyone?) And, sorry, even though he can sing, Hugh Jackman is the same kind of bad idea. The Genie, in Disney's Aladdin, is supposed to be this very wild force of OTT energy (to contrast with Aladdin as a more conventional leading man), and, though it shouldn't be a Robin Williams impression, I think I tossed out four very good ideas.

April 20, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

Cloak and Dagger are two visually stunning superheroes (antiheroes) that deserve more the big screen treatment, than the small screen... still, it's nice to see them coming to life, and the tv format will for sure allow them to be fully developed as characters...

April 20, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJesus Alonso

Jesus Alonso: I'm not sure how well this will go. The reason Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Luke Cage worked on the Marvel Netflix budget (the article saying this doesn't look anything like other Marvel shows had to have been HIGH, because it looks VERY Marvel Netflix) is that, effectively, their superpowers can be accomplished entirely practically. Iron Fist looked...not good, seeming cheap even compared to Agents of SHIELD.

April 20, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

Wow people, chill on the Julia Roberts insults. It's incredibly misogynistic.
