Can't wait to see the film and their chemistry together !

I wish this was a 2018 release.

Part of me wants Meryl to win her fourth Oscar for this just to see Trump and his deplorables' inevitable meltdowns on twitter.

June 24, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

@Aaron-Now that is a great reason for Meryl to win another Oscar.

This film has potential.

This movie better be good!

Why rush release this film for December this year,Is it just to get Oscars as if these 3 need anymore.

June 25, 2017 | Unregistered Commentermarkgordonuk

In Spielberg's hands I'm not sure. I would like in the hands of someone like Eastwood more. They paired Hanks with Roberts in the great Mike Nichols' hands and was a disappointment.

Beloved actors, yes. Good actors even. But I find them utterly boring and predictable in general. If you compare them to the likes of Ralph Fiennes, Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett, you'll probably know what I'm talking about. Well, Streep was full of surprises in the first half of the career but not now.

June 25, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDuncan

I am really looking forward to this film and the possibiities of Oscar nominations (whether there are Oscars to go with them is not THAT important). But I sure hope this one doesn't turn out to be The Manchurian Candidate or, even worse, Lions for Lambs!

I particularly would like Hanks to get some Oscar love. He was nixed for Captailn Phillips, Bridge of Spies and Sully, all films that got Oscar attention elsewhere and for which he had some buzz. Pity,

June 25, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMarcos

Didn't later career Streep bring Adaptation, The Hours, Prada, Florence Foster Jenkins, etc.? Oh well, I guess everyone is a critic. For this film, I agree: what is the rush to bring it out by this December? Maybe they are worried that the American republic will fall into ruins if they don't hurry.

I am the only person who gets tired of one actress - just one - getting all the key plumb role for all women 50+. Sissy Spacek, Angelica Houston, Ann-Margret, Susan Sarandon, Jessica Lange, Sally Field, Annette Bening, Faye Dunaway, Stockard Channing...and many many others could use an occasional starring role in movies too. Share the love.

Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench and Helen Mirren also get lead movie roles. It's very hard to get a $25 million or higher movie financed with actors that - no matter how good - are unlikely to bring in movie audiences. And that is not Streep's fault but due to a movie industry that is very risk adverse and has narrowed the movie audience to focus on the tastes of kids, teenage boys and men.

June 25, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJono

Jimmy, that's because there aren't enough roles for women over 50 in film. Of course they are going to offer the part to the actress who plays every part impeccably, attracts awards recognition and has proven to be the only box office lady at that age . What did you expect ?

June 25, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterAAA

This also applies to men over 50. Why does Tom Hanks get all the good roles? I used to be somebody important, and now I am old news. Maybe I will do TV.

June 25, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterSean Penn

It doesn't apply to men over 50 "Sean". I can see 3 new projects on "your" imdb page but on Sally Field's none.

This idea that the film is being "rushed" just because it's set for release in December is questionable. From what I've gathered, the principal photography on "The Papers" is scheduled to wrap by mid-August, which gives Spielberg and his team roughly 3.5 months to whip it into shape in postproduction. Since Spielberg edits while he shoots to a stunning degree, he probably has a good idea on how much or how little time is needed in putting the finished film together. My only question is, will John Williams be able to fit this into his schedule? I was reading that he's still working on the score for "The Last Jedi"; chances are he can turn his attention toward this by late September/early October, perhaps.

Meryl Streep is the one pulling triple duty this year: she shot "Mary Poppins Returns" in the winter/very early spring, migrated over to "The Papers" for a late spring and summer shoot, and after something like a two-week break, will shoot "Mamma Mia 2" in the late summer and autumn.

When does "The Nix" begin filming???

June 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterBC

I am assuming The Nix will film in early Fall?

June 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJamie

Last I heard, The Nix does not yet have a home (HBO, Showtime, or Netflix) or a cast. The only names announced have been Meryl Streep and J.J. Abrams. I would be very unlikely to pay to see a movie with Sean Penn or Mel Gibson, but yes, they get more work than their female counterparts who are often more talented.

June 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterSasha Velour

Earliest I can see "The Nix" filming would probably be shortly after awards season in 2018.

Jimmy, preach. Great post!
