Dress You Up in Oscar's Love
Chris here, with a moment of cuteness as you fret over your final Oscar predictions. For the past few years, artist Olly Gibbs has been adorably dressing up Oscar in the outfits of the Best Picture nominees. This year he has presented his most instantly recognizable lineup of characters with details built for maximum squee (you can see them all up close here). My favorite details here belong to Lady Bird (the Body of Christ wafers!), but which of Olly's Oscars is your favorite?

a lot of these are cute but the GET OUT one doesn't really read (hard one to do i suspect) and THE POST cracked me up because it looks just like Annie Lennox in her housewife uniform in those old Eurythmics videos for "Savage" (1988). Christ I am old.
I liked The Shape of Water. There's a nice alignment between Oscar's shape and Doug Jones' merman shape, as though they go together.
The Phantom Thread spool of thread pedestal is also very clever.
Nathaniel - The GET OUT one maybe should have been Betty Gabriel instead
Maybe the chair he is strapped to in Get Out should have been incorporated into the statue somehow?
Also, missed opportunity to have the Meryl statue in a caftan.
Olly definitely saved the two best films for last. ;)
I have a soft spot for The Post Oscar. It was as instantly recognisable to me as Three Billboards Mildred and Lady Bird herself.
I hate that Streep fatigue has taken away some of the joy of this nomination and Meryls wonderful and most deserving work in a while.
the peach! the eggs! the tears! the get out camera mid-flash! love it.
Totally love The Post one and see the Eurythmics Savage connection too!
I just love them all. <3
Armie shouldn’t be wearing a shirt and the Get Out figure should have been black.
By making the Get Out figure black he standardizes the gold as the normal/white one, while othering the black skin. I didn't even realize that until I thought about it, very smart move to make them all gold.
These are all impressive, though he did lead to the best ones with the bottom row all looking decidedly "of their picture."
These make me want to look up old Laura Bow games on YouTube.
"Call Me By Your Name" is cute
Meryl should have been in the gold kaftan and Churchill should have been fat!
I love all of these -- especially when you see the high res image of the poster -- except the Get Out one. If presented alone, I never would have guessed what it was trying to represent. The Meryl blouse is so perfect and kudos to Anne Roth for that great costuming in The Post.
1. Elio
2. “The Asset”
3. Christine
As mentioned above, the details (mid flash cam, tears) of the Get Out statuette is also good.
This is soooo clever n cute!!
My fav are Lady Bird n 3BB. Instantly iconic!
No complaint except maybe some cute lit mushrooms sprouting at the end o Phantom Thread stature? 😁
