Who Won The Oscars?
By Dancin' Dan
Rita Moreno and Eva Marie Saint, that's who.
These two living legends showed up on the red carpet looking like your beyond-fabulous favorite aunt - Rita even wearing the very same dress she wore when she won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar 56 YEARS AGO. They then presented on the telecast to giant standing ovations, basking in the glow of the audience like the Queens of Cinema they are...
I was on the edge of my seat begging for more of Eva's Old Hollywood Story Hour - she referred to Alfred Hitchcock as "Fred"! - and judging by my Twitter timeline, everyone else was too; someone better get on that! She remains to this day the epitome of grace and beauty. If you were able to stay dry-eyed as she expressed her gratitude for the applause the year after she lost her husband, you are a stronger person than I!
But leave it to EGOT Rita to serve up the personality that was mostly lacking in this year's ceremony. Striking a pose reminiscent of West Side Story in silhouette before presenting Best Foreign Film (to A Fantastic Woman!) and proving to those in the audience who haven't been watching One Day At A Time (which you all should be!) that she's still got it after all these years, she made it clear that this is her world - we're all just living in it.
Never underestimate Old Hollywood stars - they know how to steal the show, and these two ladies showed us just how it's done, in their own separate ways. BRAVA!

Perhaps the only genuine emotion during the entire evening was Eva Marie Saint's reminiscences. She reminded us why we love the movies and the people who make them.
On the other hand, Tiffany Haddish… soon to be forgotten but not forgiven.
I enjoyed Tiffany's performance. What was your problem with her?
Hitchcock let her call him Fred?
That's like learning that he taught her (and not Tippi, Grace or Kim) the five-point-palm exploding heart technique.
In this fanfic Eva is the Bride, Grace is O-Ren, Tippi is Vernita Green and obviously Kim Novak is Elle Driver.
God bless Eva Marie and Rosa Dolores! The Oscars are nothing without their history of stars, so what a treat to see these two grace the stage with their inimitable presence.
On a side note, anyone who wants a crash course in the legend of Rita Moreno, you must listen to Marc Maron's WTF podcast interview with her a month or so ago. Gag on her incredible career and journey to hard-earned, well-deserved stardom.
They were the best thing about the ceremony. Absolutely charming! I hope this teaches AMPAS to include more Hollywood legends as presenters!
I loved both Rita Moreno and Eva Marie Saint, both still vital and entertaining figures. They definitely were far fromt the Fay Fontaine caricature Kristen Wiig was mocking at the Independent Spirit Awards.
agreed they were absolute highlights!
Eva Marie Saint and Rita Moreno.... why hasn't anyone made a movie with those 2 ladies right now? They still have it.
We have decided to forever Stan these Legends.
Oh, to be a fly on the wall at Bergdorf's watching Eva Marie Saint and Alfred Hitchcock going dress shopping together.
Take a look at Rita Moreno. Then realize that she's 86. 86!
If I look as youthful as she does at 66, I'll count it as a win.
I totally agree that these two magnificent women were highlights at the telecast. And if Eva or Rita have not written their autobiographies yet - THEY BETTER DO IT NOW! Calling Hitchock Fred, and standing there looking majestic would make them both best sellers.
I really need people to leave Tiffany Haddish alone. That woman has overcome numerous obstacles to get where she is, and she is allowed to be herself while being there.
Thank you FILM EXPERIENCE. Eva Marie Saint and Rita Moreno were indeed, the best part of The Oscars. They actually did do a TV film together called OPEN HOUSE with Christine Lahti in 2003. It is actually quite good and Eva and Rita are wonderful in it. Can someone use your influence to get it released on DVD or put it ON DEMAND?
