Where were you on this day 10 years ago?

Were you in the movie theater watching Iron Man (2008) on its first day in theaters and if so, did you ever imagine what was to come

I was there to see Iron Man in that opening weekend. I still have my ticket stub. Had I known what it was going to be lead to. It would've been a shock. I'm just happy that the film still holds up and that it created something that became a game-changer. I am a loyal fan of the MCU. They just know what they're doing and make films that are fun but also intelligent and engaging. In fact, I read this article from the Hollywood Reporter that touched me as it definitely brought more reasons into why I love the MCU and why I think they're doing the work of the Film Gods.

I actually have a perfect memory of what I did on May 2, 2008, but it's unrelated to MCU. I thought the Iron Man ads didn't look very interesting, but I ended up enjoying the movie more than I expected.

I was watching The Towering Inferno for the 20th time.

I cared a whole lot more about Barack Obama's potential presidency than Iron Man.

I saw it the first night. Enjoyed it well enough (mostly because of the people I saw it with) and haven't revisited it since. The MCU is one of those cultural phenomena that I just can't roll with. Bad enough that Marvel churns out one mediocre film after another but those products cannibalize screens and the film output of some of our best actors. RDJ basically only plays variations on Tony Stark these days. I hope Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita Nyong'o don't fall into the same trap.

N -- Found out I'd been walking around for a week with a collapsed lung and that I have a super rare disease that kills 93% of patients within 10 years of diagnosis. Of course I remember that day. Still here. Beat the odds! (Also discovered that day the small upside of illness: more time to spend on movie-watching from sick bed/couch.)

Staying for the post credits scene and hearing Sam L. Jackson invite the audience to the Avengers iniitiative was... legendary.

Iron Man was a great, great film, but honestly I don't understand who defend it as the best MCU one... it's one of the bests, but I prefer Iron Man 3, Winter Soldier, Civil War, Avengers, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther and Infinity War, probably Guardians of the Galaxy, too, in terms of overall quality. I would also include Doctor Strange, if half ot it didn't work as a remake/reimagination of the original Iron Man.

I was at home wondering whether or not any of us at my company were going to have jobs. Ten months later, we didn't.

Probably counting the days till Sex and the City: The Movie came out, and hoping against hope that Carrie and Big wouldn’t break up *yet again* (alas).

Paltrow was really good in Iron Man, I must admit.
