1896 F Scott Fitzgerald born in St Paul Minnesota. Though he only lives 44 years, plagued by alcoholism and ill health, he leaves behind a rich legacy of novels and short stories that other artists have riffed on or adapted ever since, most notably The Great Gatsby, The Last Tycoon, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. He's been recently played onscreen by Tom Hiddleston (Midnight in Paris) and David Hoflin (Z: The Beginning of Everything)
1976 Oh! Calcutta! opens on Broadway (after a successful run Off Broadway in 1969) becoming a controversial musical hit (with explicit nudity) and eventually the 2nd longest running revival of all time, running for 13 years (Chicago is #1 by a mile, still playing and about to hit its 22nd anniversary)

1977 The Love Boat airs its first regular episode on TV - it had been preceded months earlier by a tv movie. It will run for 9 seasons and be one of the defining shows of its era. Aging names from studio era Hollywood as well as younger more current tv stars regularly played out the multiple storylines of each episode, with the crew as the recurring characters.
1991 Nirvana's blockbuster album "Nevermind" drops, eventually selling over 30 million copies worldwide.
1993 Happy 25th anniversary to Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused which opened in limited release quickly becoming a cult favorite with a who's who of young actors of the time along with a couple future superstars
1995 BBC One's adaptation of Pride & Prejudice premieres introducing everyone to Jennifer Ehle and all but defining Colin Firth's career moving forward.
1999 Double Jeopardy starring Ashley Judd becomes a surprise hit in movie theaters
2005 Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher make it official with a wedding in Beverly Hills.
2010 The Social Network has its world premiere at the New York Film Festival and hits movie theaters just a week thereafter quickly becoming a critical darling, popular hit, and then a major Oscar contender though it loses the big prize to something decidely inferior (it happens).

Wow, if you had told us that Demi Moore photo was from her 1987 wedding (to Bruce Willis), I would've thought nothing of it. Not even sure what to make of that (?) dress.
The Social Network > The King's Speech
Double Jeopardy is one of those films that I can't help but watch whenever it's on television.
Any reminder of The Social Network losing Best Picture to The King's Speech will never not piss me off.
I also can’t pull away from Double Jeopardy when it’s on tv. I feel I’ve seen it so often I have my favorite parts. Like Roma Maffia, she needs more roles. And the son in the movie, now a grown up actor, whenever I see him in a role, I think, why there’s Matty.
