Globe Fashions Pt 2: Regal Queen, Colman's Bitches, and Daring Men

In part one of our fashion review, we marvelled at Julia Roberts pants, while wondering what mischief Melissa McCarthy was up to. We also loved the Wakanda women and Nicole Kidman (which probably goes without saying at this point). Shockingly Lady Gaga underwhelmed and Amy Adams seemed to have inside knowledge about her impending double loss. Here's part two!

Penélope & Patty

NATHANIEL:  Let's talk Patricia Clarkson

MURTADA:  So much drama! I loved the pink strands that showed as she moved.

NATHANIEL: It was subtle but like a flash of mystery under the danger of the red. I was gaga for it... sorry Gaga...

GINNY: Great colors but it felt like it was meant for someone else.

NATHANIEL: DON'T TAKE AWAY FROM PATTY. PATTY DESERVES IT ALL

GINNY: She still won!

MURTADA: And she was SO HAPPY to win.

GINNY: A deserved win -- loved her speech.

NATHANIEL: i was fully waiting for her to say " I deserve this" like Shirley Maclaine. And then sort of glide off with red and pink and swooshing "your favs could never" thoughts trailing behind her

I was also really happy to have Penélope Cruz back that i literally didn't care if she wore the same silhouette feathery feminine thing she's been wearing for years but then suddenly a dramatic hard and shiny black number. I totally loved it.

GINNY: Penélope’s dress did nothing for me. Same thing different day

NATHANIEL: But there's no feathers this time -- That's a big 'leaving the comfort zone' step for her!

GINNY: Hair and makeup is flawless.

MURTADA:  It's not top Penélope, but it was tops last night! Comparatively she rocked.

NATHANIEL: I was about to name my "best dressed" but I just realized we forget to talk about Olivia Colman's bitches.

GINNY:   Hahahaha. Emma looks kind of washed out

NATHANIEL: I agree that the color is undramatic but the dress is such fragile and lovely.

GINNY:  It’s really similar to the Valentino dress she wore when she won for La La Land. Same vibes.

MURTADA:  Emma's beauty look was my favorite of the night, I think. Too bad the cameras didn't find her when she apologized for Aloha.

GINNY: “I’m sorry!”

MURTADA: She screamed that apology so loud, I clearly heard her in my living room.

GINNY:  But Rachel is my favourite.

MURTADA: Nicole wore something similar to Rachel's just a couple of days before the Globes! She stole her thunder!!!!

NATHANIEL: Nicole is ruthless when it comes to red carpet dominance. She is the DESTROYER (sorry)

GINNY: I still gotta give it to Rachel. It was dramatic and glam.

NATHANIEL: okay y'all ready for my favorite of the night?

GINNY:  Hit me.

GINNY:  Yassssssssss.

MURTADA:   Can't argue with that. She looks like a winner.

NATHANIEL:  Everything about this works from the color, to the discolicious textures, to the side contouring details to the loose hair. It's just amazing.

GINNY: What I love about Regina’s style is that she’s so good at surprising people. She did it at the Emmys too with that green Christian Siriano dress. When she walked up to Ryan Seacrest I screamed “Yes Regina! It’s all you!” She owned it

MURTADA: And this look had no big train to slow her down as she went to collect her award. It's like Amy shared with her the inside info!

GINNY: On other people this dress would have worn the person but she wears the dress. Any red carpet with Regina is a good one.

NATHANIEL: Finally, to wrap up we'd be remiss if we didn't talk about the SHOCKING fact that quite a few of the men weren't boring in their fashion! It never happens and it happened in multiples Sunday night.

Billy Porter

GINNY:   Some of the men actually upstaged some women

NATHANIEL: Murtada who was your favourite among the men?

MURTADA: Fabulous Billy Porter!! He brought it! But the outfit I wanted to steal for myself is Chadwick Bosman's. I don't think I can carry Billy's. Chadwick always brings his A Game. He loves to take risks and I like that about him.

GINNY: That cape on Billy! He may have lost to Richard Madden but he kicked Madden’s ass in the fashion game. My favourite was Darren Criss in Dior. I’m obsessed with this jacket and looks so darn good in it.

NATHANIEL:  I am too fashion timid to go in some of these directions (which is why most men's fashions at awards shows is so boring (i'm not the only one) but I confess I would love to be thin and hot enough to pull off Timothee Chalamet's harness detail

GINNY: At first I didn’t know what the hell I was looking at.

NATHANIEL: It's a little queer for a straight man but whatever. The straights are always stealing from the queers.

MURTADA:  It is designed by Virgil Abloh of Louis Vuitton. LV likes to push the envelope and Timothee isn’t afraid to go there.

GINNY:  Love a man in a blue suit. John Krasinski was a fantasy come true

MURTADA: I cant get excited about any of these. But the fits are great on all of them.

NATHANIEL: everyone looks good in a tux which is why they're so popular but I personally love them most when someone adds a detail that pops, like tghe scarf, on Mahershala.

BUT my mind is already drifting back to Billy Porter's cape, I only wish that each member of the cast of POSE would have emerged out of its hot pink lining whenever it flared as he moved.

MURTADA: Billy brought the fashion and the drama all weekend long. Even the NY Times noticed.

GINNY:  He didn’t need to win the Globe. He already won our hearts. (Wipes away a single tear)

NATHANIEL: "10s 10s 10s across the board" as he'd say on Pose.

GINNY: I love that men are taking more risks. It’s exciting

NATHANIEL: thanks for joining us for this fashion party.

Which look are you wearing as you exit this party?

MURTADA: I will wear Patty Clarkson's and swan around everywhere I go tonight.

NATHANIEL: And Ginny your exit gown is...?

GINNY: Julia Roberts’. I won’t be afraid of a fashion mishap because I got pants on!

NATHANIEL: Excellent choices. I am Melissa McCarthy's sorcerer's apprentice gown, conjuring brooms to sweep up what a mess the Globes have made of "Best Picture" this year. Hopefully it works!

Thanks for reading along everyone. Since Ginny is new we wanted to introduce her.

Ginny O'Keefe is an actress born and raised in Westchester County, New York. As the youngest of three children, her parents gave her a pretty long leash when it came to watching whatever film or TV show she wanted. What harm could watching “The Patriot” and Zack Snyder’s “Dawn of the Dead" do to a child, right? You can easily become friends with her if you start a conversation about the complexities of "Star Wars”, “Lord of the Rings” or owning a cat. She graduated from Elon University with a BFA in acting and a minor in communications. She is currently living in LA auditioning and writing, with the hopes of producing her own films one day. You can follow her on Instagram

Timothee looks like he's planning a routine of quadruple axels so he can cinch the gold.

Regina looked amazing. She reminded me a little of Michelle Obama on Sunday (if they ever need to cast her in a movie....). I loved Penelope's look as well, but it helps to be that gorgeous.

You missed Cody Fern in the men unafraid of taking fashion risks category, though to be fair, he's not a big name. The picture in the link below cuts off his hoof shoes, which aren't my thing personally, but kudos to trying something different.

Isn’t Timothee gay? Bet you that he will come out as bi soon.

January 9, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterPedro

That pink cape is just ridiculous,Chalmet strikes me as gay but more importantly why is he frauding himself to a nom.

January 9, 2019 | Unregistered Commentermarkgordonuk

CODY FERN is coming for your gender-fluid fashion crown, Ezra Miller.

Do you think Timothee knows what wearing a harness signifies in leather culture? Asking for a top.

January 9, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterHustler

Penélope looks great from the front - hated the "bat-wings" in the back!

Emma Stone is giving serious Jodie Foster realness.

Saoirse Ronan looked better this year at the Globes then she did at the Oscars last year.

January 9, 2019 | Unregistered Commenterceebee

Louis Vuitton does not push any envelope, Virgil is one of fashion world biggest copycats. It’s all raf simons and helmut lang.
