Do You Have a Question for the Podcast?

Sunday morning Nathaniel and Murtada will be recording a podcast. For this episode we'd like to answer listener questions, so ask away in the comments and we'll pick several to answer!

We promise The Godfather will NOT be the answer to all your questions.

After watching LIFEFORCE again last night, I'd love to hear some films that are considered 'bad' that you actually love.

Wonderful podcast as always, Nathaniel!

Who is a major star (either classic or modern) that you feel you have skimped on their filmography in terms of seeing key films or don't have an opinion on them even though they're quite famous with cinephiles?

April 19, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterJohn T

What film that didn't work out 1st time for whatever reason would you like to see remade and by whom.

Who is the greatest male movie actor of all time?

April 19, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterJames T

Thoughts on the future of the screwball comedy?

Lots of discussion about What's Up Doc? (and the immortal Madeline Kahn in it) made me wonder if this style can still have a strong showing, what with all the permutations of comedies (Grossout comedies; romcoms [also currently in a lull]; black comedies; etc).

Sweet revenge! Most actors who originate a role on stage, aren't given the opportunity to play their role in the film. Off the top of my head I can think of two actresses that were not given the chance to play their role on film, but then, as life would have it, they ended up nominated for an oscar opposite the actress who 'stole' their role .. and won. Julie Andrews (My Fair Lady) & Geraldine Page (Agnes of God) are the ones I'm thinking of. Can you think of any more, and is there one instance that particulary makes you happy?

Question for NATHANIEL: Which Film Bitch ACTING winner has best stood the test of time? And which has held up the least?

Question for MURTADA: You were not a fan of last year’s big Oscar winners, GREEN BOOK and BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY (rightfully so). Therefore, is there a particular film slated for release in 2019 whose awards prospects fill you with dread? For me, it’s JOJO RABBIT.

Murtada: Were there any selections in Nathaniel's year-in-advance predictions that surprised you?

The 50th anniversary of the 41st Academy Awards, which honored the films of 1968, is upon us. Coming off a host-less Oscar ceremony, let's hear your thoughts on that year's host-less ceremony, which I consider to be perhaps the greatest Oscar telecast of all time?

Though full of memorable moments (a tie in Best Actress, the first G-rated film to win Best Picture, Kubrick's *only* Oscar win) and bizarre turn of events (a disqualification of the Documentary Feature winner), the 41st Academy Awards seems weirdly under-discussed. Is it because the films of 1968 generally seem to pale in comparison to the iconoclastic barn-burners of the year before? Is it overshadowed by the Midnight Cowboy year that followed? Or that the year's most enduring films (2001: A Space Odyssey, The Producers, Rosemary's Baby) were *not* nominated in the top category?

Sorry for the long-winded, multi-part "question," but I would love to hear your collective thoughts on this ceremony, which you can (re)watch, in much of its glory, on YouTube.

I have no questions for you hoes. Just continued sulking behind Close. I wouldn't mind ending the Academy Awards altogether to rid the world of concern over the lack of (choose a minority group) recognition.

Do you think future generations will actually watch the Marvel movies on streaming / iTunes / whatever platform comes out by then? Or are they really just in-the-moment event-type movies?

Nat seeing how it's Natalie Wood's 80th year how do you think her career may have progressed during the 80's and 90's.

1) Although there's been an increase recently, why do you think it's relatively rare for the Palme D'or winners to get nominated? They also pretty much never win.
2) With this year's Cannes film festival being the last of the 2010's, how do you think this decade's Palme D'or winners stack up compared with the 2000's?
3) Prediction: What actress do you think will finally follow up Halle Berry's win and become the second African American Best Actress winner? I think Viola will eventually win a Lead. Do you think it's her too?
4) Will you do that "What's our favorite films of the nominated Best Directors" for this past season? We always enjoy hearing that. I'm especially curious what everyone's picks are for Spike & Yorgos.

1962 Best Actress is considered one of the greatest lineups ever. Where’s your heart go?

Are there other Best Actress lineups you consider perfect?

As it came up recently, which performer who hasn't been nominated should have at least gotten one if not multiple nominations and a win? Select a living and deceased performer.

One more:

What do you think is the best and worst lineups of Foreign Language Oscar nominees this decade? I think the Son of Saul year is the best (2015) since all 5 are stellar, and the worst is 2011 with A Separation being the exception to an otherwise forgettable group.

Good morning! Have either of you joined the Criterion Channel? The official collection is about to include its 1000th title. Do you have a favorite film in the collection and/or is there a title you wish to see receive the Criterion treatment one day?
