Beauty vs Beast: Say it With Cerulean
Jason Adams of MNPP here with your brand new edition of our "Beauty vs Beast" poll -- not to over-Meryl us (does such a thing exist?) with two Meryl polls in the span of three weeks on top of her much-talked-about turn on Big Little Lies, but it was the 13th anniversary of The Devil Wears Prada back on June 30th and it suddenly struck me like a very expensive coat in the face that, blasphemy of blasphemies, we have never done a Prada Edition for this series. I KNOW!! Insert a gif of one of Miranda's withering glares here. Shameful. So let's see if the Anne-Hatha-lovers have any tricks up their designer sleeves...
PREVIOUSLY Last week between bouts of Meryl we tackled another queen of screen Olivia de Havilland, and while she may not have taken down Ryan Murphy with her Feud-based lawsuit Livvy at least got one over on that other queen Monty Clift, taking 59% of your Heiress vote. Said joel6:
"Morris is a beauty and perhaps Catherine is too naive but that's her father's fault not hers. Morris is a low down gutter snake that gets exactly what he deserves and seeing Catherine serve it up to him is sweetness itself. Olivia de Havilland gave several great performances but this is the cherry on top of the cake! Wishing her all the best as an awesome 103 year old and as long as her health holds may she see many more birthdays!"

Nobody wants to be Andi. Every body wants to be Miranda.
If you got the money and the power at least be grateful. I voted for Andy.
Agreed, Tom G - even Anne Hathaway would vote for Miranda.
Miranda would slam her coat and bag down and give this poll one look.
Ooo, this is going to be a rout. If you replaced Andi with Emily, there might be more competition ...
Though I’d love to see a poll between Emily and Nigel.
This movie didn't make much sense to me until I realized it was being mismarketed as a rah-rah young female empowerment movie. It's not. Miranda is the protagonist, and Andrea is the villain.
Maybe do a sequel of this with Emily Blunt's character vs. Stanley Tucci's character. That should at least be competitive.
"Oh don't be ridiculous, Andrea. Everybody wants this. Everybody wants to be us." -Miranda Priestly
You could've at least had made it a competition if you'd have Emily instead of Andrea.
Andy is awful. Self-righteous, boring and apparently lazy. She wants the job but doesn't want to do the work?
Brevity: Yeah, I have no idea how anyone likes Andrea, especially at the beginning, but even at the end, she's Lindsay Bluth, not Liz Lemon.
I enjoy football matches but I will watch vivo pro kabaddi live this year for some fun.
Ohhh, now I'm debating whether I'd vote for Emily or Nigel. Tough choice!
Does this run the risk of being the most lopsided victory ever?
Sorry Queen Anne but even I would have to vote for Miranda. She's vicious.
No competition. Miranda vs Emily might’ve actually been a contest.
Miranda , of course!
Completely unfair.
Love love this movie it would be even better if I could cut all the scenes with Andy's useless boring boyfriend
Miranda. Streep wiped the floor with everyone in this movie.
Hathaway deserves some credit here. She holds her own in all of her scenes with Streep and we see Miranda through her eyes. Without her performance, Andi would be completely insufferable.
That said, I voted for Miranda.
By all means move at a glacial pace, you know how that thrills me.
I say that line in my head so often- there's no contest. Miranda.
emily
It is a great article. You will surely like this also because it is a great stuff
Bad Ice Cream 3
Is it just me or do Anne Hathaway and Taylor Swift resemble one another? Anne is giving me Taylor vibes in that photo above (as well as in Serenity).
Hathaway is wonderful here. The movie wouldn't work at all if her transformation wasn't believable, but let's be for real, in a movie with plenty of stars turns, there is very much one sun at the center. Streep makes Miranda's quiet wrath is a thing of beauty. Minimal tricks (at least they aren't showing here), just a great actor clearly enjoying a great role.
Andi's boyfriend and friends suck. I hate all of them.
A person like Miranda Priestly is always far more entertaining as a fictional film creation than a real-life human being. It's all fun and games until they cause you to lose your job over something as small as messing up their drink order or seating them at the wrong table. Therefore, I side with Andy.
Having said that, this is the third Oscar Streep should have won.
Meryl's greatest performance, maybe? I could name some that are arguably /as/ good, but nothing better.
Troy H - I'm so glad that someone admitted to inexplicably voting for Andi. You're absolutely wrong, of course, but I'm glad that you stood up to be counted!
I love The Devil Wears Prada yet it took me a long time to realise why - and Brevity hits the nail on the head why. Once you stop feeling like the film-makers (actually, the author) want you to side with Andi, it becomes so much more enjoyable to absorb as a love-letter to Miranda and her flawless fans (Nigel and Emily).
Not only is Andi pretentious, deluded and ungrateful - she also has an awful boyfriend, truly terrible friends and magnetises the scum of the fashion industry (hello Christian "Eyebrows" Thompson).
Basically, the film is about Miranda trying to mould a horrible person into someone worthwhile, failing, and realising that Andi probably wasn't worth perservering with in the first place. A message we can all relate to.
Jokes aside, there's no way we can be expected to buy into Lauren Weisberger's myths of grandeur - I mean, she wrote the best possible version of herself and Andi is STILL only partially bearable because Anne Hathaway is firing her entire charisma reserves at the screen...
Miranda is awful and just think about how horrible her 2 brats will be when they grow up......but I gotta go with her anyway b/c she's riveting and fun. Meanwhile, Andi is earnest and well-meaning, but she has idiotic, judgmental friends and a dopey boyfriend. Miranda all the way.
I wanted to take a chance on the smart, fat girl, but in the end I had to vote for Miranda. ;-)
I voted for Andy mainly because I think Hathaway is underrated in the film, but I have no doubt who will win this and I’m not mad at it either. I watch this movie often and always leave it wishing Andy would’ve given her terrible boyfriend and terrible friends the boot!
I'm shocked to read so many defending Miranda as this virtuous hero? You could only value her if you are a fan of late stage capitalism and believe that corporations should own our very souls. She's a monster. An entertaining monster of course -- Streep shoulda totally won the Oscar -- but a monster nonetheless, don't get it twisted. She treats people like utter shit, she abuses her employees, she overworks them, etcetera. Andi was just tryign to figure her life out and rejected this one career in favor of something she really wanted to do... whats wrong with that?
This is a non contest!! Miranda is so gonna give Jason her signature withering look, for even dare to attempt this poll 😂, turn ard in her chair w a soft "That's All...."
Nathaniel - It isn’t that serious.
@Nathaniel R: Geez, I can't believe a lot of people missing the point. Thanks for being the voice of reason.
I have seen this movie about six times, and every single time I really wish Andy would haul off and smack the living shit outa Miranda. She is a total irredeemable biatch who has no fucking right to treat anyone the way she does. Sure, this is entertaining to watch, but deplorable behavior by any measure, even by movie (ie, not real life) standards. The only thing that makes it remotely tolerable is the precise humor Streep brings to the part and the realization that Miranda is deep down empty and miserable. Love that.
Miranda. That's all.
