Watch at Home: 1917 Again.

A biweekly look at what's new for home viewing...

New on DVD or Blu-Ray
1917 - Sam Mendes continuous shot war epic took home 3 Oscars. We shudder to think how reduced it will be via motion-smoothing on the nation's TVs.
Clemency -Too somber to win legions of fans but this death row drama has amazing performances
Come to Daddy - Elijah Wood sure does make a lot of indies, doesn't he?
The Current War - After years of sitting on a shelf and then a swift wide release, we're definitely curious...

The Cranes are Flying - One of the greatest movies of its decade, and an unmissable piece of Russian cinema.
Rise of Skywalker - a bummer considering it was capping off the most popular film series ever
• Song of Names - lost in the glut of releases last awards season was the costum drama about a violin prodigy

The takeaway? Make room for The Cranes are Flying on your shelf. Or at least in front of your eyeballs for a spell.

Just saw CLEMENCY and I get why it was lost during awards season. That Christmas release was completely wrong for it and gosh was it bleak. I was also weirdly left cold by Alfre Woodard's performance (and I usually love her). That said... Aldis Hodge should've shown up SOMEWHERE for awards last year. He was really, really good.

"1917" is a real big screen experience

Just your daily (sporadic) reminder that Renée Zellweger is a two-time Academy Award winning Actress.

We have a theater in our home... so we watched 1917... a magnificent movie all around.

I would have titled it Triumph of the Will". The lead actor played each scene wonderfully.

I agree RDF -both actors in "1917" should have gotten nominated

Has anyone seen the animated short version based on Colin Trevorrow's Duel of the Fates script? Yeah, it's a little wonky but it was way more interesting than The Rise of Skywalker. That was so underwhelming.

Motion smoothing (soap opera effect) can be turned off, IF you can find it in the settings.

Rosa -- yes. very difficult to do i've found. My tv is finally free of it for the most part but some movies and tv shows still seem to be effected.
