BABY CLYDE
Oscar obsessive, Golden Age Hollywood fanatic, and new contributor to TFE, all of which can be attributed to witnessing Geraldine Page’s Best Actress win when he was a small child. Nothing was ever the same again. Casting director and model agent by trade, he begrudgingly makes time for this in between watching Classic films and re-ranking Academy Award nominations. He has been waging a war on category fraud for decades. It’s a battle he is currently losing. He thinks Spice World is a masterpiece. His love of Movie Stars is equalled only by his love of 90’s Supermodels, Track and Field, Basset Dogs and Cher. [Twitter | Letterboxd]

She is a features writer for Pajiba, where she specializes in the intersections between celebrity, gossip, the industry, and pop culture history. She lives in Dundee, Scotland, and spends most of her time on Twitter. [Twitter | Official Site]

He is also a member of the Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics and hosts the And the Runner-Up Is podcast, which reviews the presumed runner-up for Best Picture at the Academy Awards in any given year. Unfortunately, this has turned him into an Oscar completist. Kevin resides in Connecticut. [Twitter | Instagram]

BABY CLYDE AND KEVIN!! :)
Welcome to all, and thank you to Nathaniel for his marvelous ability to seek out and gather the most interesting guests. I hope everyone enjoys themselves immensely.
Baby Clyde giving me serious 78 Sylvester and i'm thankful for it.
LadyEdith -- thank you. Corralling these panels is stressful but in the end always worth the effort. :)
Baby Clyde!? (said to the tune of Tiffany “New York” Pollard’s “Beyoncé??”)
Baby Clyde and Kevin...my heart skipped I'm so excited!!!
Welcome Aboard!!
the TASTE jumped out. Cannot wait for this
I'm psyched! The guest panelists this season have been stellar and this crew looks like no exception. I've already turned in my ballot for '65 and have just started watching the ladies of 1987. When the smackdown wraps for the year I'll hardly know what to do with myself!
I thought I should dress up for the occasion (And '78 Sylvester was EXACTLY the look I was going for!!!).
Okay you are seriously killing it with these panels! I'm excited.
Welcome panelists! Can't wait to hear your thoughts.
I was so hungover on Sunday and I listened to your episode on Kevin Jacobsen’s podcast in bed and it made me feel so much better. Thanks guys!
Fabulous!!
Great panel here to discuss a list of nominees that honestly after a recent viewing is not my most favourite of lists. There were a lot of great women who should've been nominated but as it seemed where no were near the conversation,
I've watched some 65 titles but if anyone has any recommendations feel free to mention because I've seen a lot but I'm confident there is some things that were released in the states that year that I'm missing.
eoin -- please offer up some recommendations. I can't pull a 1938 binge watch of titles this month but i would love to see more supporting actress suggestions in particular.
Nathaniel - in terms of great supporting actress performances.
Joan Blondell - The Cincinnati Kid
Thelma Ritter - Boeing, Boeing
Anne Vernon - The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
Eleanor Parker - The Sound of Music
Giulietta Masina - Variety Lights (from my research it didn’t get an American release till 65)
Flora Robson, Maggie Smith - Young Cassidy
Eoin-thanks for the alternatives, outside of Parker (I guess she wasn’t nominated because she didn’t have a song, because otherwise it would seem like she would have been an obvious candidate considering it’s a showy role which she nails and she was nominated several other times prior) and Blondell I was having a hard time coming up with other candidates. Vernon is a great pick, had totally forgotten about her but she’s lovely in that movie. I basically *like* the nominees but it does seem like one of those “we didn’t have many options” kind of line-ups. Which imo always leads to the most interesting smack down discussions.
I imagine a lot of the comments about Othello are going to be directed toward controversy. I am someone who thinks that we should not judge past productions with current thinking. Even productions from 10 or 20 years ago would look bad. My problem with the nomination of Sir Laurence Olivier is that it took away the more deserved nominations of Omar Sharif in Doctor Zhivago and Sidney Poitier in A Patch of Blue.
_Best Non-nominated Best Supporting Actress 1965:
Charmian Carr - The Sound of Music
Eleanor Parker - The Sound of Music
Geraldine Chaplin - Doctor Zhivago
Martha Hyer - The Sons of Katie Elder
Wendy Craig - The Nanny
