Eligible for "Best Original Song"
Thanks to The Wrap for providing this list that though it's a pity (as with all of these types of list) that it's taken so long for it to arrive. Now we have barely a moment to think on it before Oscar whittles it down to 15 songs on February 9th. The complete list is after the jump and we've put 25 titles in bold that we think have a great shot at the finalist list...

“Io Si (Seen)” from “The Life Ahead” (Laura Pausini)
“Free” from “The One and Only Ivan” (Charlie Puth)
I was surprised to see Diane Warren's name absent from this list, but it turns out that the names in the parentheses from your source are performers and not necessarily songwriters. She wrote the above songs, and therefore has two chances to be nominated.
Glad Radha Blank has another (very small) chance to be nominated for an Oscar.
I still can't believe OVER THE MOON just submitted one of its songs and not even the catch, very popular one! "Ultraluminary" is a bop and should've at least been considered and would've been fun if it had been nominated alongside Leslie Odom Jr's song so two HAMILTON OG cast (Phillapa Soo) would perform (three if you count DeBose in THE PROM). Could've easily been four or more if IN THE HEIGHTS had come out!
Massive thanks for this, Nathaniel! I've been pissed off since they hid the longlist of eligible songs from 2018 onwards. Glad we have this.
I think that John Legend's “Never Break” from the Netflix doc “Giving Voice” about August Wilson has a quite good chance too. Maybe they even want to turn attention to the film about "Fences" and "Ma Rainey's black bottom" author by nominating the song... And the song is powerful, just like they like them at the oscars... then again it falls into the same style with, what I think is the frontrunner - "Speak now" from One night in Miami...
Clearly, "I Love Boobies" is making the cut.
Brevity -- i noticed that but thought it would takee a few hours to replace all 100+ names with songwriting teeams. weird that the source did it that way since its not the performers who are nominated.
Diane Warren also wrote I'll Get There from Emperor.
Other songs to keep an eye on: Never Break (John Legend), See What You've Done (Mary J Blige) and Everybody Cries from The Last Outpost, which was co-written and performed by Rita Wilson!
I don't get why Trolls didn't select The Other Side which is very catchy. But maybe Just Sing is a bigger moment in the film?
GO WUHAN FLU!!!!!
YES!! Queen Bee from Emma!! I’ve been wondering about its origins and rooting for it all year. Such a lovely song. Much more unique than many other bland ballad end credit contenders. Deserves to be a nominee for sure.
First off, Eurovision should take all five slots and it's gross that it can't
Second, Husavik should win the Oscar
Where’s the song from Mank? I think the opening song from Jingle Jangle is better than those two shortlisted. Happy to see Husavik.
"Green" from Sound of Metal is a song I could listen to for days on end.
Antonio, it was deemed ineligible due to being only heard for about 60 seconds in the background (I believe).
Weak year and you really gotta dig into what makes a song worthwhile, but I think I'd be happy with the songs from EUROVISION, THE 40-YEAR-OLD VERSION, MULAN, MISS AMERICANA, EMMA, THE HIGH NOTE or ALL IN. I know they won't, but those are the really the only ones I have heard that made me Shazam them!
I’m very distraught that Revolution from I Am Woman is not eligible. It’s written and performed by Lily Donat, Helen Reddy’s granddaughter. So lovely.
JW -- it is very unique, i agree. so many movie songs sound generic. I'm not sure i'll nominate it (i'm not big on nominated end credit songs) but it's definitely in my top ten

So Meryl Streep, Ariana DeBose, Jo Ellen Pellman, Kerry Washington & Nicole Kidman are ALL credited writers on the song from THE PROM? Wouldn't it be odd if Streep becomes "four time Oscar winner" with one of them being writing a fifth of the lyrics for a song in a terrible film? Talk about a footnote nobody's gonna want to read.
Dan -- this list is who performs it. I dont know why it was written that way but i didn't have time to eerase all the names (this is a copy and paste list) but it's not the performers who are nominatd.
@Nathanial. I should have figured that out... :/
Although they wouldn’t get the Oscar nom themselves, it’d be really cool to see Kylie Minogue (“Lazy” from A SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE: FARMAGEDDON) or Natasha Bedingfield (“Together In This” from JUNGLE BEAT: THE BEAT) perform at the Oscars! Crossing my fingers that “Square Peg” (from YELLOW ROSE) makes the finals.
For those interested, I made a youtube playlist of all these dongs. Well, almost all of them. Some were impossible to find on youtube. Anyway, there are some potentially interesting nominees here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvp021C_-sx1_EeqGWe3B1fKoD4slrKx5
Such a strange category. I haven't even heard of most of these movies and then the movies I did watch I had no idea there was an original song. There was a song from Never Rarely Sometimes Always??? I don't remember a Tegan and Sara song from Happiest Season.. I'm so confused.
I know he is not everyone's taste but I was (pleasantly) surprised to see Richard Cheese aka Johnny Aloha aka Mark Jonathan Davis in the list. He can be borderline offensive to others but he sings well. Now, I'll see if I can watch Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar where his two eligible songs was used.
The song from Music is great though! I know we can't like Sia anymore and I haven't seen the movie so I guess I can't nominate it because I don't know the impact the song has on the movie (?????) but it's a wonderful song and I'd nominate it just because it sounds good. I mean basically that's all this category is anymore. Whatever sounds best. Rarely do people use new songs in an significant/interesting way these days, unless it's a musical. And those are rare.
Count me among those surprised and disappointed that Over The Moon didn’t push Ultraluminary, the more popular (and much better!) song from their movie. I’d love to see the songs from The 40-Year-Old Version, Eurovision and Onward get in.
@Drew I totally second that. Eurovision songs in the film are the very main reason why the AMPAS supposedly created this award. Songs WRITTEN to be part of the story and that launch the film in different directions or build up the narrative. The work on this film is absolutely outstanding... I'd say that the one closest to this could have been The Lonely Island's "Popstar; Never Stop Never Stopping", which was completely snubbed, despite offering a couple of worthy winners, rather than just nominees.
Other original songs I have noted that are not on this list (Perhaps due to not being formally submitted or missed by The Wrap) that are original from this year:
-Birds of Prey (“Boss Bitch”)
-Birds of Prey (“Experiment on Me”)
-Birds of Prey (“Joke’s on You”)
-Birds of Prey (“Sway with Me”)
-Dolittle ("Original")
-Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (“Double Trouble”)
-Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (“Jaja Ding Dong”)
-Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (“Volcano Man”)
-Promising Young Woman ("Uh Oh")
-Trolls World Tour (“Don’t Slack”)
-Trolls World Tour (“The Other Side”)
@Ben
it's pretty obvious that the Eurovision team only submitted Husavik, recalling what A Star is Born did... that film could have easily gotten 3 nominations
- Shallow
- Always remember us this way
- I'll never love again
maybe 4 with "Maybe is time".
They kept it simple, to avoid cancelling each other, and decided to go full steam with Shallow. It worked
My favorites are:
"Nobody Knows I'm Here", Nadie Sabe Que Estoy Aquí
"It's All Love (History of Funk)", Trolls World Tour
"The Other Side", Trolls World Tour
I still haven't gotten over Alone Yet Not Alone stealing Young and Beautiful's spot and then getting disqualified with nothing replacing it ;/
Anyway, this category is usually pretty weird. A lot of times cringe-inducing.
“Uh-Oh” from Promising Young Woman is the song of the moment for me, and it is so better than “Come and Play With Me”, but theres no way the Academy would've choosed.
Overall i'm particularly not amazed by this year songs.
That said, i'm still rooting for “Husavik”...
@ Jesus
Oh I totally understand why certain songs weren't submitted like the ones from Eurovision. I'm just giving some of the songs I've noted as also original.
When I'm making my own ballot for Original Song I include more than what's submitted. I just thought I'd share some more song options if people were looking for more
