'in brightest day in blackest night, no link shall escape my sight'

Screen Daily what can we expect to see at Cannes this year?
Variety Taika Waititi will be back in front of cameras soon, not just behind them. He'll play the pirate Blackbeard for an HBO comedy series
Deadline Florence Pugh to star in Sebastian Lelio's next film called The Wonder
/Film Cate Blanchett, Cheyenne Jackson, Haley Bennett, Gina Gershon and more signed on for videogame adaptation Borderlands (Blanchett is the lead)

Pixar artist worries, Cronenberg & Viggo reuniting, HBO's Green Lantern and more...

Insider artists at Pixar are worried about their jobs with Disney deciding Pixar is just a Disney+ thing now
MNPP Viggo Mortensen and David Cronenberg are making another movie together -- yay! -- it might be a remake of  one of Cronenberg's early works
AV Club Justin Theroux on starring in the new adaptation of his uncle's book Mosquito Coast
• Cartoon Brew Sony, the last remaining major studio without a streaming platform, has made deals with Netflix and Disney for their post-theatrical streaming
Theater Mania Apple TV will premiere a musical comedy series this summer called Schmigadoon (yes, it's a riff of sorts on Brigadoon but more about the golden age of musicals in general). Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong star
Coming Soon Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah) in negotiations for leading role in the next Transformers movie. Yes, apparently they're coming back.
Towleroad Anne Heche talks about her relationship to Ellen DeGeneres and how the studios treated her after the coming out
Cartoon Brew an editorial about Oscar's careless voting in the Animated Feature category. We also don't understand why Oscar voters aren't expected to see the nominees before being allowed to vote in that category.

Finally...

• Coming Soon Finn Wittrock has landed one of the main Green Lantern roles in HBO's attempt to serialize that superhero after the flop movie version starring Ryan Reynolds. I always thought that would work better as an outerspace political drama leaning series looking more at the Lantern Corps than earth's Green Lantern... like a Battlestar Galactica or Expanse or something ... to combat the utterly camp sci-fi of the source material. Like go the opposite direction with it. But since this is produced by superhero TV factory Greg Berlanti expect more of the usual though probably with a bigger budget given HBO rather than the CW.

Pixar artists should stop complaining and I say that with love. But I have red so many articles like this already. It’s the pandemic that’s the issue, why people pretend it’s over. Some people said it was racism that Mulan and Raya were premier access and not free on Disney+ like Pixar and now it’s a tragedy that Pixar films can be seen. I am sure Disney wants to go back making billions releasing the films in theaters as soon as it can and it’s trying different strategies and isn’t trying to make this permanent or thinks one strategy indicates the people who made the movie are permanently doing this. We all just have adjust still to pandemic times.

Poor Anne Heche.

Anne Heche should be exactly where Cate Blanchett, Renee Zellweger and Naomi Watts are at now. Given what we know about the industry and how truly chaotic and evil it is, I'm willing to say that they only got to where they are precisely for keeping their mouths shut until it was convenient. Anne Heche is the best actress working in Hollywood right now and it's been infuriating to see how she has never received her just due for the last ten-twenty years, yet PR machines behind every other successful woman is what kept them afloat. Weinstein was also responsible for blacklisting he after she refused to sleep with him during the auditioning process for Beautiful Girls. I truly think the tide is turning in Hollywood after Harvey Weinstein has fallen but the fact that it took so long is such bull.

Count me in for Schmigadoon with this cast!

"The cast also includes Alan Cumming as Mayor Menlove, Kristin Chenoweth as Mildred Layton, Aaron Tveit as Danny Bailey, Dove Cameron as Betsy, Ariana DeBose as Emma Tate, Fred Armisen as Reverend Layton, Jaime Camil as Doc Lopez, Jane Krakowski as the Countess, and Ann Harada as Florence Menlove. Martin Short guest-stars."

I'm kind surprised there hasn't been a Yes No Maybe So for the Annette trailer given Cannes is right around the corner.

@Sam. I never would have thought that. Now that you say it, I won't be able to unthink it.

Dan Humphrey you’d have to have the delusion of the GlenCult or Kindmaniacs to deny it.
