"The Celluloid Closet", that was an excellent piece, never originally caught the potential gay vibes in "Red River" - 2 cowpokes comparing pistols ("There are only two things more beautiful than a good gun: a Swiss watch or a woman from anywhere. Ever had a good... Swiss watch?") and "Ben-Hur" (2 gladiators hurling spears that land next to each other, then drinking wine, arm in arm). Great stuff.
I went to see Black Widow yesterday in the theaters as I think it's meant to be seen in the theaters. I liked the film but... that was a terrible theatrical experience as the project went black not once but.... 3 times. For myself and the audience, it killed the experience of enjoying the film for us as it was also not good for my bladder towards the end as I waited to see the post-credits scene.
I still prefer the theatrical experience but if shit like this continues to happen, then I might have to stay home for good.
We owe Vito Russo so much.
Vito Russo and his book are landmarks in gay culture, history and cinema studies- do not really understand these "woke" gays who don't appreciate his work how daring it was. The documentary is a also a must watch.
