Eva Green is Evergreen

by Jason Adams

A very happy 42nd birthday to the queen Eva Green today! I was going to take this opportunity to do what I usually do whenever Eva Green comes up -- complain about her being under-used and under-appreciated, because she is! -- but she does actually have several big projects lined up to come out possibly this year, so let's try to be positive and celebrate those...

First up Eva's starring in a duology of Three Musketeers movies -- I know, if any property calls for a trilogy it's probably the Three Musketeers, but these seem to be going their own way. Directed by Martin Bourboulon and co-starring an impossibly beautiful and talented assortment of European stars like Vincent Cassel, Romain Duris, Louis Garrel, François Civil, Ralph Amoussou, and one Vicky Krieps, the first film is subtitled "D'Artagnan" (Civil is playing him) while the second film is subtitled "Milady," named after Green's character. Eva talked to Premiere magazine about why she took the role a couple of months ago (that's her on the cover up top in costume), calling her Milady both "psychopathic" and "carnal" which sounds like the perfect Eva Green role to me!

Green also mentions that she got that role because of Vincent Cassel recommnending her after the two worked together on another project I think will hit this year -- the Apple+ series Liaison, which is an espionage thriller that's giving me all sorts of Casino Royale feels. And seeing as how every single Daniel Craig as Bond movie that came after Eva's turn in that first one was forced to deal with the exquisite shadow she cast, that's saying a lot. Give Eva Green all the roles!

ooh so nice to hear about this. i dont understand why she's not a superstar. Does she need a better agent? Is it that no auteur has really latched on to her?

OK, that I will watch. I do love Eva Green. I'm also hoping she does a Marvel film. I can see her play a villain. An evil sorceress wreaking havoc and the only person that can stop is.... the Scarlet Witch.

Come on Marvel, make a deal with Elizabeth Olsen that would allow her a lot of money and also free time for her to do other projects. I am not ready to let Wanda go. We need her!

Eva Green always seemed like a performer who would be appreciated unfortunately either later in their career or after their death. She consistently gives excellent performances in multiple media in multiple languages but is still unappreciated nor always in demand. Serious question: has she ever given a bad performance? People with careers like that often get rewarded later, after generations have come to understand their brilliance.
