Canada and Germany pick their Oscar horses

We're up to seven official contenders in Oscar's Best International Feature Film category. Only 85ish more to go! Canada and Germany have made their selections, one is surprising the other is exactly what everyone expected...

🇨🇦 ETERNAL SPRING
Canada  (7 nominations, 1 win, and 3 additional finalists from 47 submissions)

This is an animated documentary focused on the comic book artist Daxiong and China's persecution of the Falun Gong spiritual group that led to his immigration to Canada. It's been making its way through the festival circuit since March. This is a surprising choice from Canada in that they've never before sent either a documentary (though that's becoming more commonplace) or an animated feature. Animated docs are fairly rare as submissions though two have been nominated previously: Israel's Waltz with Bashir (2008) and Denmark's Flee (2021)

🇩🇪 ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT
Germany  (20 nominations, 3 wins, and 5 additional finalists from 61 submissions)

As everyone expected -- hell, some people were claiming it as fact long before it was on social media -- Germany will be submitting this World War I drama, based on the same book that already produced a Best Picture winner of the same name back in 1930. Netflix will distribute the film.

Canada has an excellent choice, although this is unexpected, but I think it is very non-standard for them. After all, animation occupies a huge share in the world-famous classics, I think that this work can become one of them. We are in a service where everyone can pay a low price for a good essay https://essaypay.com/ we often refer to our essays, which we write to order just for animated works.
