I'll Link to That

TODAY'S MUST READ Self-Styled Siren debunks myths surrounding John Wayne and Sacheen Littlefeather at the Oscars in March '73. Really interesting piece as it shows you how press and stars speak about charged incidents, how incredible stories get started, how they change over time, and how often they're accepted as gospel once enough time has gone by. (P.S. Personally speaking I have always disliked John Wayne but even so, I have had trouble believing this story)

More after the jump including a biography of an Almodóvar regular, funeral screenings for Batgirl, the cult of A24, Black Panther toys, and a couple of remakes. Question: why does the entire internet call all remakes (and even some sequels) reboots now? The three separate words actually do mean three separate things...

I have never heard that story of Wayne and Littlefeather before. None of my books mention it but they do talk about how Brando got lots of flack for it. Littlefeather was portrayed as a B list actress who appeared in Playboy so no one took her seriously for a long time. People were jokingly asking Brando to donate his salary from Godfather to indigenous peoples charities.

I don't understand why the ceremonies of the 70s and 80s aren't streaming anywhere. HBO Max maybe? lol

I do remember that story about what John Wayne tried to do. He was a fucking straight-up racist piece of shit.

I can't see Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton for this remake of Roadhouse. I don't think it's going to be any good. That film is already perfect. It doesn't need to be remade. Plus, how can anyone top what Patrick Swayze did in that film? He was this great mixture of Bruce Lee and Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Harry Styles really needs to go to film school. I've seen a lot of LGBTQ films but I still feel like I've barely scratched the surface.

Man, fuck Warner Discovery. There will be a special place in Hell for David Zaslav.

thevoid99 -- yes, John Wayne was a racist piece of shit. However THIS specific story about his racism is clearly a fable and not grounded in truth. Fascinating article.

I wish people would talk about the original "Road House" with Ida Lupino and Cornel Wilde.
