The Movie-Related Nominees for the 65th Annual Grammy Awards

Each year when the Grammy nominations are announced we report on nominees of interest to film fans. But before we get to the screen entertainment-adjacent stuff, we must first acknowledge the recording industry's three marquee categories: Album, Record, and Song of the year. We have a repeat of 2017 with Adele & Beyoncé squaring off yet again for the top prize. Beyoncé leads the nominations this year with 9 and as of today is tied with her husband Jay-Z as the most nominated musician of all time at the Grammys since they've each  received 88 nominations over the course of their careers...

Review: 'Don't Worry Darling'

To quote Lady Gaga: That’s gossip!

To ignore the gossip cycle that has become the press tour of Don’t Worry Darling can be difficult in the macro, but when the movie started it slipped away quite easily. For whatever may have been said about Olivia Wilde’s second directorial feature in the lead up to its release, that friction hasn’t quite come through on screen.

It’s not a good movie in the sense that it is coherent and fully grapples with the ideas it appears to be putting forward. It isn't and it doesn't. But it also is not a bad movie in that it is badly made or devoid of imagination or one where you can tell everybody on set hated everyone else. Which, after everything that’s happened, feels like more of a win in the moment than it oughta be...

TIFF Diary #4 - 'My Policeman' and 'Banshees of Inisherin'

7 hours of glorious sleep at a festival! Knowing that nothing could compare to my Tanya T adventure the day before, I sensibly hadn’t booked any further films for the evening, so I was home in bed by midnight. I know it sounds ridiculous when some people work in mines and on 16-hour shifts of emergency wards, but film festivals are exhausting! Not proper, real-world exhausting but certainly no-time-to-do-anything-else or call your mum exhausting. I also of course have to find time every day to send these lightweight bulletins for the millions of you eagerly awaiting my next update. All refreshed at 7am I was ready for the days entertainment. As you will discover that early start came back to bite me by the end of the day. 

I started my viewing in style, Harry Styles in point of fact. After dabbling in acting the last few years, he’s been handed actual leading-man status. By the evidence of this offering, it may be a bit too soon...
